G-614`s Speed Rating?

Just had a set installed on my `09 3400. Any one know the speed rating of this tire?

You want to study loads, speed ratings and/or inflation goHere However, I think there are many, many other factors other than the speed ratings on tire that ought to govern the speed traveled when towing.

You might want to look at this site: http://www.goodyear.com/cfmx/web/tru...rodline=160007 I was told 75 MPH at 110 psi. I just had them put on last month....

62 is my limit, it's nice to be retired and in no hurry to get anywhere.... Also remember, this tire is an LT tire, so I guess 75 in a truck is not out of the question.....Just can't imagine a truck application needing 110 psi tires. unless you're hauling a lot of cargo, an awful lot of cargo.......

You don't put G614 tires on a truck. They are trailer tires.

The story on ST tires again; where you need 110 psi to attain a load rating to carry a trailer; Wow! Those 14 ply tires on a 16 inch rim just as well be solid! The springs and suspension will have to take the shock and abuse for the difference in ply rating and psi. MPH of those ST tires have a restricted max rating of 65 MPH and there is good reason; they are not a LT tire; IMHO only, as I prefer to stay with LTs. Just think if we had the same problem with LT tires as the STs; the highways would be covered with chunks of separated tire treads. With any tire, increased speed and decreased air pressure are porportional to heat developed with the tire casing. Low psi and high speed over time will cause enough heat for a "Blow Out".

I think Goodyear causes a little confusion on the G614 tires on their website. The tires are RST, but sizing goes by LT235...., thus the confustion. If you follow links to the load inflation tables, the speed rating is given; 65 MPH.

65 MPH is way too slow on the open road.

That's too fast for me even if it is the open road. Mileage for us is best between 55 and 58 mph. We get there not too far behind those who drive much faster.

First, My mistake on the "Putting them on a truck thing". As Will says, they are listed as LT235's which would indicate a truck tire. I see now they are for trailers only. Second, On the speed issue, all the sites I went to list the max speed as 75 mph for the 110 psi. Third, just because they are rated for 110psi does not mean one has to air them up to the max. I only aired mine to 100 psi and that is probably 5 lbs higher than they should be. Proper usage would be to air them according to the load they are carrying or they may be over or under inflated. Greg you are certainly within your rights to go whatever speed you desire as I am also. I just care to go at 62mph. Wave as you pass me!!!! lol

My father in law curses me everytime he follows me somewhere for going too fast. I'm going to start slowing down I guess. You know how us leadfoots are.

Driving 75 mph may be acceptable if you never have to make an emergency stop- I wish the standard electric brakes were more efficient but that's the nature of the beast- 62 to 65 with cc actuated is most comforable for us- We are not passed by very many RVs- Our mpg is noticeably higher at those speeds also- Enjoy the ride and live to enjoy tomorrow is our motto- Don

I run between 58-60. If any traffic begins to stack up behind me, I just pull over to alleviate the problem. The optimum mileage for my truck is obtained at those speeds while towing. I am the one who has to pay my fuel bill so I don't much care about whether I am driving too slow for some. Since I drive to the right, there is always a lane for those desiring to drive faster to pass.

Hey guys I have no interest in towing over 65mph! I was just wondering. Will pick up my 3400 today. I had the X-Factor, wet bolt kit and the G-614`s installed. Hope I can just use this thing now and enjoy it! Hmmm, how about a TPMS? Does it ever end?

Yep, I thought so. Looked at your profile, and you're the same age as my son. I rode with him pulling a loaded 16' cargo trailer behind my 04 Duramax and looked over and he was running 90 MPH. I invited him to pull over and I drove the rest of the time.

I've towed at 70 before on a wide open interstate with no traffic, but never anywhere close to 90. Are you kidding?
