Retractable Studded snow Tires

Just saw this article today

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080330/...ctable_studs_3

Studded snow tires with retractable studs so they can be used all year long. Uses a air bag/bladder to push out the studs and controlled from inside the auto.

Now why didn't I or you think of that!
Of course they will be made in China.

This is great news. With all he destruction I see on our roads during the winter, I would think our state governments would sponsor this in a heart beat. I for one have not been in favor of studded snow tires because of the damage they cause. I could support something like this. However, as with the studs, some people will use these the same way and toss out common sense. I have seen far too often people fly by me on ice and wind up in a ditch further down the road, wondering why the studs didn't work. It is not the studs fault they were stupid!!! The biggest problem with studs is when the ice and snow are gone, there is nothing for the studs to chew into but the road surface. The majority of our winters find the roads free of snow and ice. These tires would be just the ticket.
