OEM Fuel Tank

I am seriously thinking about replacing the OEM 26 gallon fuel tank in my 2006 HD 2500 with a Transfer Flow 45 gallon tank. For those that have performed this operation, what did you do with the old tank?

Maybe Im missing something but I was under the impression that the transfer flow tank supplemented the oem tank.

Snownyet,I believe that Transfer Flow makes both types (replacement and supplemental) tanks.

I have upgraded from the 26G to the 45G tank, and had the dealer that installed the replacement tank dispose if the old tank for me. Had to talk him into it, as there are fewer and fewer places that will take used fuel tanks.

Oh yes, love not having to stop for fuel every 200+ miles when towing. Now we usually get to our spot, unhook set up, then get fuel the night before we are ready to leave.

I like the idea of a Aux Tank in the bed. Reason, trade trucks and you can take it out easy and install it in a new truck, besides it being cheaper up front. Both Transfer and RDS make Aux Tanks that are easy to install. With a small 30 Gal. Aux tank and your 26 Gal you'd have 56 which should get you to the next fuel stop.

IMHO, Transfer Flow is the most expensive, but also the best. All aux tank manufacturer's products are not legal...TF's are legal. Don't forget you'll be adding another 300# in the bed of your truck.

Is there a differnce to 300 lbs in the back of the truck or under the truck??
I've been thinking of the 30 gal in bed of truck, is the auto fill legal?

300# in the truck is 300# in the truck...doesn't make any difference where it is. As for legality, you'll have to check with the manufacturer, then maybe check on them. Most legal issues have to do with the manner in which the fuel is transfered from one tank to another.

I went with an in bed 65 gal auxiliary tank. Tank was built by American tank in Texas. I switch tanks with a toggle on the dash. Installation took about 3hrs. Love the set up. 96 total gal
