Ford 6.0 extended warrenty

My 2 yr old 250 is coming up to 36,000 miles. I can buy the extended warranty. There are maybe 4 levels of coverage, and maybe 4 levels of deductibles. So I could choose PowerTrain only for 100k miles add on coverage with a $50 deductible. The top end is 7 years, 100k, 500 parts covered including seatbelts and the radio that costs around $2200.

I normally don't buy warrenties like this. But I want this big truck to last 10 years (part of why I bought a diesel). And I have keep an Accord 225k miles over 9 years.

SO, your advice please, given my situation of wanting to keep the truck a lot of years (but I doubt the miles will be all that large).
In the end I'll decide of course, but I am interested in people making the case of why the warrenty could be cost effective.

My feeling is if you are planning on keeping this for 10 years,I would go with the power train warranty, with a deductable that you feel comfortable with. From what I understand,a replacement motor could run $10,000 from Ford, A tranny 2-3 thousand. I wouldn't worry as much about the assessories, you can buy aftermarket items to replace just about everything on your truck which has as good quality or better. ford has had some issues on this motor, have they offered an extended warranty at all? But,like you said,it is only an opinion, you are the one paying the bills.

I have been after Ford Canada regarding my truck....I have 45000 miles on it in 42 months...90% of the miles on it have been under tow.....The Original diesel warranty is good for 5 years or 100000 miles...I will never run out of miles I am running out of time...I can buy the Ford ESP warranty as long as I dont go over 96000 miles or the 5 year time period...I am trying to convince them to give me a credit for the last year of my 5 year warranty and then I will buy the 4 year 80000 plan from them.(which would give me an 8 year time frame)...the best(extra care/113 items one costs about $3000 (Cdn)..After 2 EGRs and 4 turbos I need the warranty.....(I have the ford ESP brochure)..I read about the 7 year warranty on ford owners club....I cant get it here.....I was told by a US supplier to give him a US address and he would do it for me...I am reluctant to send $3000. out and find that the warranty wont be honoured for "falsifications"...

Your right, I wouldn't give anyone that money either. The question will come up about where it is registered etc: I think that guy was betting on some easy money, hoping you would never use the warranty. Ford gets pretty picky when it comes to dishing out thousands of dollars for an engine replacement. I would not want to be in the middle of that fight either. They could fish out fraud in a minute and your out a lot of money to have to fight to get back. If the people you paid did not go bankrupt in the meantime.

I will purchase the Ford extended warranty for my shinny new diesel truck. See this site....www.fordwarrantys.com You can buy them at a discounted rate..shop around... For some reason I do not trust this drive train to last 100K without a serious failure. Oh me of little faith...

These are very reliable trucks. I am guessing you have a 2006 F250 6.0. Put the warranty money in the bank and use that $1000 to $1500 as insurance to take care of any repairs that you might need. Remember you still have the 5 year/100,000 mile engine warranty.

I understand that concept.......and quite frankly its the only one that I would have been pushing 2 years ago......I intend to keep this truck for another few years..I wll run out of time long before I run out of miles....I have 15 months and 80000Km left...the truck has never given me a problem nor left me stranded..although I have replaced 4 turbos and 2 EGRs in 80000 Km...I am worried thatif I dont get the warranty it the past holds true I will be broke by the time the truck hits 8 years old..

Gene, don't forget the standard 100k mile engine warranty with $100 deductible. Just make sure whatever additional coverage over that you get is worth the cost. If it is, go for it.

I have a 2004 450 I bought the extended warranty so it takes my truck to Sept. 30 2010. Since I Have 76000 miles I could only get it for the engine. But if you have less than 36000 you get drive train.
My son works for IH he thought it was a good idea for a turbo costs
$2000.00 I have had know problems yet but piece of mind is worth something when you travel. I can have it worked on at home for nothing
but parts but I figure when we travel it's a good deal.

That's my problem.....If I have a problem at home I am at least "at home"...If I am on the road then it seems a little more drastic... I have several relatives in the U.S. but you know nothin will happen anywhere close to where they are..

Don, I hope you will consider a service like Good Sam's Emergency Road Service which will get your truck to a dealer and your fifthwheel to an rv park in event of a problem. It costs in the neighborhood of $100 per year and is worthwhile to us. If the extended warranty covers towing for both the truck and fifthwheel, then never mind...

Guys shop around little better. Ford offers an engine extended warranty for an additional 100K miles, giving you total of 200k mile warranty. Covers all major engine parts. Got mine last fall $1,400.00, for an additional 5 years 100K beyond the original 5/100K, check it out. Do goggle Ford PSD 200K warranty plan, it's offered only by Ford themselves, also look at Desilstop.com they have it in files as well.
