Fold up bed cover

Is antone using a folf-up bed cover? Does it clear the 5th wheel hitch? I am looking at the Extang Tricifica that CW has on sale for $319. Looks easy enough to put on, just wondering if it will clear the hitch. Thanks.

We had the fold-A- Cover on our 05 F-350 and it worked just fine, The hitch fit under OK. The only negative about it was that the fold up sections folded up behind the rear window and we could not see the hitch when hitching.

I have a Velcro cover on mine and go over the fifth wheel without touching it. I do put a bungie strap on the handle though as it does pop up a bit.

We have a rollup style cover the one that rolls into a storage box, like a rolly door, I love it. Had it 5 years now with no problems at all. might be a little more expensive at first but it does pay for itself in durability. you can lock it in up to six positions to keep things in front of the hitch dry while traveling, and it keeps your hitch dry when unhooked. no snow in the winter months either. I believe it is an x-tang brand but don't hold me to that without checking.
My cover is a Pace Edwards like BB TX has. I agree with all he says about them.Would get another in a second.

We have a roll and lock brand and it works great as we can leave it over the bed 1 notch when we are towing to keep things dry in the bed of the truck john its about $950.00

I've had an ACCESS ROLL UP COVER for 7+ years, it's the easiest, and most convenient cover to install, use, or store that I have found.

I have the Pace Edwards Full Metal Jacket roll up cover. It clears my hitch by about an inch and locks in place every 12".
Whatever you decide on, check the many web sites that sell them. I found the prices vary significantly (as much as $400+ for what I bought).

Easy to install. My son and I did it in less than an hour. Clamps on. No holes to drill in the bed or rails.
If your hitch is slightly below your rails, then you can probably do it. If the hitch is too high, you may be able to lower the hitch and lower the pin box accordingly.

We have a Fold-a-Cover on our F250. The only downside, as Rich said is not being able to see the hitch when hooking up. However, I've found that picking a spot on the rear window or some of the latch mechanism on the cover as a "sight", I can usually get it right the first time unless at a pretty good angle. The up side is that my Draw Tite hitch is going on 6 years old and has no rust from being exposed to the weather. I like to be able to cover whats in the bed of the truck when not towing. It also locks very securely. I'm happy with it and would diffinately buy one again.

I have the Advance fold up cover and love it. As Richfaa stated in his post I can not see the receiver when the cover is opened. I have adapted by putting some white tape on the cover and on the king pin and can align very easily using that method. In New England, I feel the hard folding cover is best for the snow load and waterproofing point of view.

With the folds-A-Cover we also adapted by some white tape markers and had no problem in hitching. Just thought I would mention not being able to see the hitch as we did not have that heads up and it was a surprise to us..

A trick I would use is a little flag, like one of those bicycle flags at Wally World, in front of the receiver. I have seen them on trailer balls to back a TT up, and it works great. Shows you where center is and how far to back. You only need it sticking up a few inches for the 5er hitch to be able to see it through the rear window.

My modification would be to encase the bottom of the stick in epoxy with a magnet that would just hold it on without it falling on its own. Back up to hearts content and when the flag falls over, you have hit the king pin. Just a rambling thought.

Wayne, I bought a flag on a magnet for backing up trailers some time ago, never used it but it sounds like for what your talking about, it would work. Was for boating co maybe Cabellas or Bass Pro Shop.

I was going to get the Extang Tri Fecta, but became concerned that when folded up, and when I turned the 5er, it would hit the cover (I only have about 5" clearance between the bedrails and the bottom of the 5er). I would check and see what the thickness is and how far it extends back behind the cab before buying. If you have plenty of clearance, it might be OK. I ended up getting the Extang RT and have been very happy with it for the price.

I have a low-profile tool box in my bed. I don't see how a cover would fit over it. Does anyone have a cover that starts behind a tool box?

Today, I stopped at the Truck Accessories on I-45S in League City. I'm interested in putting a cover on the F-350. The one I liked was $1195 installed.

It is a Roll-N-Lock

It look nice and rolls up into its own compartment about 4@4(maybe a little more) and locks in 3 positions. A little pricy and I'm still going to look around. This was the closest dealer to me.

They also had a roll-up that once rolled up there were two straps with quick disconnects that held it at the back of the truck bed. $595

Also was one that folded up, but had a fold up at the rear near the cab for easy access to cooler, etc., when the roll-up was covering everything. $695. I did not like the fact that you had 15 or so inches exteded from the cab when folded up.

I'm still going to look in the Houston area for other covers and different prices.

Stiles, I do. Low tool box with cover over it. You have to roll it up to get to the tool box.

Mine is an Access and love it. But there are pluses and minuses on anything you cover the bed with. Just being able to throw something in the back!

I have the Truxedo roll up cover and love it. I hope to get a new truck later this year and would probably buy another Truxedo for the new truck. For those of us who live in colder climates, it adjusts for the contraction of the top in the winter. When it rolls up, it stays below the window. It secures to the side with velcro and has support rods about every foot and latches above the tailgate.

I have a Truxedo on mine and love it. Roll it up and when we get to the site I can roll it shut and keep everything dry.

Not to hijack this, but I have a brand new navy blue Truxedo cover that will fit a long box ford I would part with as it is taking up a lot of room in the garage. PM if interested.
