Just the facts, mam

Parked last night next to us:

3255RL Montana, 2005

Tow vehicle: 2004 Ford F 150, regular cab, long bed, 4.6 liter, air bags and extra spring, rear end ratio unknown, 20,000 miles on odometer.

From Terre Haute, Indiana, Headed to Brownsville, Texas

No, we are not kidding! And, yes, I meant to type 150.

P.S. Al says he thinks the trans will go first.

Stiles,

We wanted a photo so bad, but, these people pulled in at 7 PM,and left this AM before 6.

We felt that taking a flash photo, or series of photos would be rather intrusive, and valor and all that, well, we just did not feel compfy doing that, so

Alas, sadly, no photo.

I know you meant to type F-150, did you really mean 4.6 liter (a V-6)? I have one of those with a 5 speed manual and 3:55 rear gear that will pull stumps in 1st or 2nd, does OK in 3rd, but has trouble pulling itself in 4th and 5th. Can't imagine backing under "Dorothy" (38'SOB) with the poor thing. Bob

ggranch,

Our 1997 F 150 4.6 liter was a V8.

Have they changed that???

That is interesting...2007 F150 4.6L, 248 HP, 294 lb-ft, 3.73 rear, 12,000 gcwr...2004 3255RL Dry weight 9690 lbs, Cargo Cap 2930 lbs, Hitch 2220 lbs. I'm thinking its a toss-up between running the engine into the ground vs. the tranny working overtime. Then again how much stopping power is there in that F150?

I was waiting for that to come up in a topic. I'm sure there are a lot out there, more than our worst nightmares.

But, it is a Ford, (built tough you know!)

Before leaving Tampa I saw a HR Presidential 5er behind a Ford F150. Watched him hookup and pull out. Should have taken a picture, he did not have any sign of overloads and the rear bumper looked about 8 to 10 inches off the ground. The front wheels were barely touching the ground. I did notice Michigan plates on the unit. Totally unbelievable.

Thought we had a law in Michigan... no ash borers north of the Bridge - no Yoppers south of it. Could be wrong... Sounds like that one escaped (Wisconsin does kinda have porous borders... We need a fence).

One problem - in the UP any 1980's vehicle is considered "new". How he ever found such a fancy truck is a total mystery...

One sure sign... did any empty beer cans fall out of the truck when he opened the door?

Also... a sure sign: was the truck radio blaring, "Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer"? (BTW, Yoopers don't consider that a funny song...)

That is so scary! I so wish we had some pics to look at. It is so hard to believe that someone would endanger their lives as well as the many innocents they encounter.

Glad they were parked when you saw them.

Safe journeys.

Gee, even I wouldn't suggest towing a Montana with an F150 or any 1/2 ton truck. Not even with the older Ford "heavy half tons," which had stronger suspension components and some other things.

Man if the weight police get a hold of this thread and run it by one of our favorite hard working politicians it could spell trouble. I can see it now weigh and check stations for RVers. Al
