Thetford Style II commode

I sent the following comments to Thetford using their web comment box and a copy to Keystone for feedback. Keystone sent a courteous reply within 24 hours. It's been two weeks now and no response from Thetford.

"We received our new Montana fifth wheel in September 2010. It was ordered from the factory so had
not been sitting in a dealer lot. It came with a very nice Aqua magic Style II toilet. This past week-end the flush pedal fell off and would not stay re-attached. It was disappointing to find out that there is only a one year warranty on the unit. It was also disappointing to read stories on the internet from many other RV’ers having the same or similar problem. Some units require the user to lift the flush pedal after operation in order to stop the water flow and close the trap. There appears to be a common premature component failure in the flush assembly of the Style II. We will have to replace our unit and have noticed that Dometic/Sealand models offer a two year warranty coverage.

Thanks"

While staying in Sarasota area, I spoke with two Montana owners with 2011 and 2012 models. Both had a problem with their commode flush pedal. Is this a common problem with the side flush pedal. It sure is missed when it's out of service.

Our pedal is still in place, but now sometimes it holds water other times it doesn't. Our bowl appears to have loosened on the riser, allowing the bowl to shift causing miss-alignment with the ball seal. To tighten the hardware you need to have tiny hands and triple jointed arms. While doing some research on ours I noticed on the Thetford web site the Aqua Magic Type II is an "Entry Level" Porcelain bowl toilet. So I guess if we want better quality we would have to upgrade to one of their better models. Not exactly what you want to hear on a fairly new unit.
