When to replace my G614's?
Next month my G614's will be six years old. They look great sidewalls are not cracked still plenty of tread left. I would guess that we would have around 40,000 miles or so on them. What is the general rule of thumb for changing a trailer tire because of age and not by wear? I tend to be on the more conservative side and always err on the safe side.
Any ideas on this subject? Thanks.

I have seen nothing in print, but have always heard 6 or 7 years.

Bob,
The general rule of thumb has been 7 yrs. Some say 6-7 yrs.

I believe that the Goodyear warranty is for five years for tread life and 7 years against cracking (This is for the 670's I cannot find the warranty papers specifically for the 614's, but all rv tires link to the same warranty page on Goodyear's site)? I fully intend to utilize the seven year cycle since mileage concerns and therefore tread wear are not an issue due to the nature that we use the rig. This is only based on my opinion though, so all I can recommend is to do what you think is right.

I would start shopping for new rubber after 6 years if there were no crazing or cracking in the side walls. Tread depth is critical too.

There is a saying among sailors as to the question of when to reef the sails...make them smaller due to increased wind velocity so you don't get over powered. The saying is that when you think about reefing or ask about reefing, it's time to do it. Same goes for replacing tires.

We went to an Escapee Boot Camp and a retired Goodyear Engineer talked about tires. His take was, for high quality tires 5-8 years and then replace them. His push was for the lower number.
