scary hole drilling

I don't think there is much scarier than drilling a hole thru the side of your pristeen Monty.

Just finished drilling a hole thru the slide wall behind the TV for the satelite conection. All went well as far as I know.

I hate drilling thru a wall when you don't know what is between the inner and outer walls.

I don't think I hit anything at least I hope so.'

We are now set to hook up the tailgater satelite and see how it works.

We have an 2011 3400 so there is no phone jack to take out and replace with the anttena lead.

Good luck, Don. I know that feeling well. I also drilled a new hole for the satellite connection but in my case it was because I'd already converted the phone jack for use with the wifi antenna.

I drilled the dryer vent hole in our 3400 when I installed the washer/dryer. It does get a little scary but it will generally initiate many measurements to be taken, over & over & over again before you start the drilling.

Not sure why you had to install a new hole for the satellite. I thought the new trailers had 2 coax inputs in the convenience center, one for cable the other for satellite. Am I missing something?

I thought the same.
My 04 2980RL came with two inputs, convenience mounted in the rear side and satellite in front of the slide in the middle of the Monty.

Yes there are teo inputs but I wanted to be able to have both active without having to switch cable around so I went this route.

The good news is once you get over the angst of drilling or cutting that first hole, the next ones are a piece of cake!! Been there done that on the last two rigs. I think that also gets you an honorary membership into the Ozz Mod Club!!

Perhaps an "adult liquid beverage" BEFORE, you put the bit to the aluminum. Just one or two though...... I, too, am always concerned that drilling thru a wall I will hit a live wire and electrocute myself, especially a unit without a wiring diagram.......... Just Saying.........

Based on the above comments, for those brave members who have a need to drill or cut into their rigs, it would be a good idea to make sure the rig is unhooked from shore power and disconnect the battery prior to cutting into any areas of the rig that may contain wiring in the walls.

All of the wiring runs front to back in the attic and then down the wall to each outlet, etc. I don't believe there is any wiring that runs horizontally in the exterior walls

And I believe wiring to outlets in slides comes from below the slide.

There are a couple of "I believes" and "it's my understandings" in the above posts. But no body has said anything FOR SURE. We don't have the Montana any more, but if we did, I would not be drilling any holes in it.

Actually, maybe OZZ can chime in here, I know there is a hand held device similar to a meter, that will detect the electrical lines while they are hot. Check with Radio shack. I wouldn't pay much for one.......

Okay, no" I believe", the wires in the outer walls of our Montana and all the ones I have seen being built, go top to bottom, no horizontal wires. It still takes a careful inspection to determine just where they are.
