Interstate 40
Anyone had to alter their route due to the rockslide on 40 at the Tennessee/North Carolina border? We're heading out soon, and that's our normal route to hit the Smokies. 40 is not scheduled to open until late April and that's the best case.

can't help with that, but some stretches through New Mexico I've been on lately, I doubt if you could tell the difference.

I have not found an update as to when it will reopen but I ran across this site with the DOT recommended detour. I don't know whether it will work for you.

I'll come up through Cherokee and Gatlinburg. I was just wondering if anyone else has had to deal with the rock slide.
Thanks!

Greg, if you are going thru cherokee, then take 74/19 from cherokee to waynesville nc. Its 4 lane all the way and you will come back in to 40 on the east side of waynesville nc.

Greg We have been to pigeon forge 2 times since dec. We had to use I-26 to johnson city and I-81 back to exit 407 to hiway 66. it adds about 70 miles to our trip but it is a nice trip for a change. I will be glad when 40 is open again. we come up 26 from columbia. If we use the car 25-70 from ashville to newport is a great ride also across the mountains on 441 as you know is nice but not pulling the montana. I used to go that way when we had a smaller rv but had to quit. we went I-26 to I-81 two wks ago it snowed on us from ashville to johnson city it made for a beautiful trip.

Greg we have been staying at Claboughs on 321 for about 7or8 yrs. it is a older park but well maintained and right in town. it is about 1/2 mile from the parkway so you are close to everything. we have made alot of friends up there. we have stayed at alot of other places up there and just kind of settled on that one.

Creekside rv park on 321 a block from Claboughs, is really nice, all full hookups, and is passport america.

I've stayed at both of those. Both are good. I like Riverbend at light #1 also. Nice concrete sites on the river.

We stayed at riverbend when we first started going to P.F. 21yrs ago. camped in a tent by the river. if it was raining up in the mountains you had to watch for the river to rise real quick. brings back great memorys.
