Toyota 1 ton Diesel Concept

Toyota is thinking about a diesel in a huge way as evidenced by its 1-ton Tundra Concept Dually. As if the truck itself weren't large enough, they put an enormous 300hp, 600-lb-ft 8.oL Hino inline six-cylinder diesel from a medium-duty application under the hood. It is only a concept but I would expect to see it out soon.

I have seen pictures of their concept truck. It is very retro. It will be interesting to see IF they put it into production or not.

Other than the cost factor(up here, Toyota's are pricey, but I would assume that the addage of you get what yu pay for applies)...I would think that the Big three should be worried about this one....

Don't know if it wouod be any better or any worse than any of the big three..however.. there is the perception that their trucks are better than ours and that will have a devastating effect on the big three truck sales.

Toyota has come to play and they play for keeps. The medium and heavy duty trucks, while not fancy like ours are, very good trucks. This does not bode well for the "big three"

A few years ago, we sold some property my wife owned in Louisiana to a fellow that owned a dealership (Toyota)in south LA. He told me then that Toyota was working towards a fullsize diesel pickup. I had since lost confidence in him. But, maybe, just maybe, he knew what he was talking about.

hahahahaha - I love it. I could probably reach the handle on the hitch with that one!

Wonder if the Lexus line will pick it up and hang another $15K on the price.

I have always been a Ford 4x4 owner, 30 years anyways. I love my 2005 F350 for towing the 3400RL. I also own a Toyota Tacoma 1995 and I love the truck. If Toyota comes out with as good a 1 ton truck as it has with the Tacoma, it will put the pressure on all the others and for one I have said since I bought my Tacoma 12 years ago I could be pushed into a 1 ton Toyota.
