Looks like I'm a victim of this brake wiring issue, Wife and I were on our way to the Smokey Mountains for the laybor Day week. Started seeing a message on my dash check trailer brake wiring, then brakes disconnected. Stop at camper world in Chattanooga TN and thought the issue was fixed......Wrong. Anyways we made it to our destination for the week so today I check my truck and it's all good, Re did all the brake connections, at the hubs, and in the Jbox and still not working. After reading that this is problem...this gives me some ammo when I call Camping World in Knoxville in the morning.

Contacted Camping World this morning in Knoxville, since I've already had this issue documented and worked on in Chattanooga they are calling them. Also since it's still under warranty and unable to take it on the road I'm sure they are contacting KeyStone.

Anyways it seams like they are working on a solution.

Please post when you get this resolved. I am having the same issue. Thought it was the 5er cable to tow vehicle plug. Replaced and it's still happening. Read another post about the wiring along the axles where the wire insulation is rubbing-off causing a short. Plan to look at that next, when time permits. Unit is currently in storage. Good luck.

Camper World sent a technician out, told him the issue, checked the truck, it's ok, disconnected the blue brake wire in the Jbox and plugged in the 7pin plug to the truck and checked for connection to the truck, was good. So the 7pin trailer plug is good, went under the trailer and on the driver side above the front axial there is a slit in the belly pan with the white brake wires coming out, the tech pulled out the grey Rolex with the blue and white trailer brake wires, cut the crimp connected off and we tested just the blue wire and we had connection to the truck. The tech striped all the wires and re-connected them back together and all is working again.

I'll get a picture of where the blue brake wires are tomorrow.

Wow, I hope that takes care of it. So where the wires are are crimped to the brake wires there were some bad crimps? (Making sure I understand what you said! I'll def take a look at those on mine. That'd be nice. Thanks DadsHemi. I'll touch bases after I have looked at mine.

That would be correct, the tech said they don't like these type because of these kinds of issues and would rather have wire nuts. This way you don't have to cut wires and just unscrew the nut to check.

We will see if this solved the issue once we head back home on Sunday and gets giggling around on the road.

@ DadsHemi,

If they used wire nuts, you would not have had the issue in the first place!

Better yet - solder joints!

Agreed, I'd like to solder them and use heat shrink tubes.

Actually, a high end junction block with screws on both sides is the best for long term maintenance and the ability to repair and diagnose wiring problems down the road. Much better than always having to cut wires and then reconnect if there is a problem.

I had this problem. When I took off the brake drum I found the brake wire was pushed in to far rubbing against the brake drum. The insulation was worn off and half the wire worn. I fixed that and no more problem.

I just hope they can get this fixed tomorrow, already had to take tomorrow off work. At least we found a campsite for the night.

Thanks for the feedback DadsHemi. Wow! You are a patient guy! Glad to hear it's resolved. I might bring ours home on Wednesday. Will look at all drums. Noticed other owners have had similar problems. Thanks again.

We're still here, they had to locate a magnet. I really hope I don't have anymore brake issues, I called Keystone again this morning to get this documented so hopefully the 3 time is the ticket.

Thanks for sharing your experience...This winter I will be ensuring all wiring is protected by inspecting the axles and pulling the hubs. I'll be removing any crimp connections...haven't decided on wire nuts or soldering yet

Hey DadsHemi. I just posted a message about my brakes. Looks like my right rear wire was rubbed apart. This is what caused my connection error. Thanks for your information and feedback. I have included a link to my old thread "Loose 7 pin connection" in case you want to see my sideways pic. Not sure if I am doing this correctly. http://www.montanaowners.com/forums/...20#post1074620
