If you use the beach ball trick..don't forget to take it out before bringing in the slides...yup, we forgot. Couldn't figure out why the big slide wouldn't come in on one side. Tried it two times before the light dawned!! Beach ball is still in good shape and it has become a play toy for Graeme. We will try the rope trick next, maybe a web belt tie as the rope could be too thin and cause damage from rubbing ?

Steve,
I thought about having the slide awnings installed, but have decided to use the money for window awnings and the rear sunshade next spring. I will order the slide awnings on my next coach.

Dave, I can certainly relate to that. Comfort comes first. We are hoping to get window awnings for the big side windows and a screen for the rear one if I can find a good deal somewhere.

Brad - Please tell about pulling the boat and any issues with mounting the hitch to the frame. I have a bass boat that I need to pull too.

We had slide awnings installed by cw this summer. They do help keep leaves and twigs off the top of the slides. I did not realize the water would get trapped on top. The first time I put in the slides I did it to fast and the water rolled with the awning and was deposited on top of the slide. We also had a major leak at the top edge of the slide which ran down on the inside wall above the stove. We had a dealer fix the leak and I learned to take the slide in a little at a time. I guess like everthing else, they have their pro's and con's

That's interesting. We've dumped a lot of water bringing the slides in normal speed. Ours always rolls off down the slide of the slides. Leaves tend to stick to the side of the slide until they dry out and fall off on the road. I'll have to keep an eye open for water getting under the topper and onto the top of the slide. So far we've not had that happen. Thanks for the headsup.

We will be ordering the rear window sunshade and the window awnings for dining/living slide all in one, from camping world nashville and have them installed there. Also it takes a few weeks to order those in .. while we are there we will take in the sights. We booked at Two Rivers Resort , has anyone stayed there, how is it ...

For those interested in slide toppers and/or window shades and awnings, I got an email from Camping World today. They have a sale on those items until September 5th. When we get our rig we'll do some measuring and call and see if we can arrange to buy now and have them installed by the Elkhart store the day we leave the rally. Assuming the price is right, that is. Otherwise we'll look elsewhere.

Here's what we use for topper deflappers, an idea we got from MOC. For our three S/Os got three eight ft. lengths of 1/2" plastic water pipe, six 90 degree "els" and two couplers; 100' of 1/4" nylon rope; and three bungies. Cut the pipe to fit the two short S/Os with about 3/4" more on each end. Glue the 90s on each end turned in the same direction. Run the rope through the pipe. The hard part is getting the pipe on top of the awning--I use a broom. Bring the rope down both sides to meet underneath at one side of the S/O. Measure the rope (eyeball is fine) so you have a small loop on each end and a gap about 50% longer than you bungie and now insert each end of the bungie in the loops underneath the S/O and no (little) flapping . There won't be a crease made in the awning because of the pipe---when we tried the rope it started breaking down the edge of the awning. With the two left over pieces and the remaining 8' pipe (this is the piece to trim if the overall length is too long), you should have enough material for the large S/O. The trick here is to glue the couplers on the short pieces only (also put the 90s on the other end of the short pieces), no glue on the long piece (may have to sand a bit to get it to slide into the coupler OK) and then you can take the long pipe apart for storage

I have the Carefree of Colorado slide covers. Mine do not have the tenting arm for water run off . They did not offer this when I purchased my Mountaineer in 04. They do have the wind deflector which is nice. If I am going to stay in one spot for a while I have two large round swim noodles and two square cut smaller swim noodles. I duck taped one small, to one large, to make two sets. I shove them under the large slide awning from both sides, square side up, till they meet and it forms a tent to drain off water. These things are light and cheap and store in the basement with ease. You may need a ladder or use a picnic table to put them under the cover.

I really like the noodles idea but, thinking about it, I'm not sure we'd have room in our basement. I'll have to check that out more closely. Thanks for the idea.

If you make them up and use them try not to have an old folks moment like me and could not figure out why the slide would not come in. I now have a glitter tag with a line attached on both ends to remind me about the noodles. One noodle trying to remind the other noodle.

I've got them on all three and I wouldn't be without them. Only thing I don't like, is how do I get the roof of the slide clean?

I've got them on all my slides. The dealer tried to talk me out of them when I was ordering them but I wad adament that they be there. I wouldn't have them any other way. When you do come up with a way to clean the roof of the slide out, make sure you post it.
