Hitch Cost

I am just entering the world of Rving. I have purchased a 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 short bed truck. I got a quote to install a sliding 5th wheel hitch that will tilt two ways , rails and brake switch. It was $1,450.00. The installer informed me that the Dodge required a special adaptor to attach the rails to the truck. That was the reason for the high cost. Does any of this sound right?

The Dodge kit for a Reese/Draw-Tite is under $100 from Camping World. It's just a reinforcement that goes at the rear rail.
You did not state what brand and model hitch and brake controller.

Welcome To The MOC

It kind of sounds like your installer is facing college tuition for one of his children.

The hitch is a 16k Draw Tite. I do think I will be headed to Camping World. I think it would be worth a 100 mile drive.

Depending on your hitch, it could be high or it could be about right. I think I spent about that for my Pullrite non-slider hitch + extra wiring. The Pullrite is a bit more pricy than some others...

My Reece 16K cost $750.00 to install in a Chevy. It is not a slider. I do not know what the cost of the slider hitch should be but the cost you mentioned sounds high enough that I would start checking around to be sure of the price. Good luck.

I would say if he is charging $1450 for a manual slider go get yourself the grand daddy of them all "THE SUPERGLIDE". Around my neck of the woods they are going for $1800 with the standard rails.

I have a 2500HD D/A CC 4x4 SB. The wife and I decided that after he price we paid for the tow vehicle and our 2005.5 2955 the Pullrite automatic slider hitch was "cheap". I can get the truck and trailer totally jack knifed and still have about 5-6 inches between the cab and the 5'er. Keep in mind with your SB you are approximately 18 inches shorter that a full box and you WILL hit the cab unless you have some type of slider hitch either manual or automatic. For me it was Pullrite.
