Hi all
How do you all connect to the internet while in your Montana's my husband and i are both computer addicts and wonder about connecting to the internet while traveling. Any Good Ideas

We'er part time Travelers, so we do use dial up at most parks. Most Parks we visit have a phone jack in the lounge areas. We have MSN with a lot of local numbers. If we are in a place with no local dial up number we use BAMNET.net. They give us an 800 number on a pay as you go basis. This may be of interest to you check them out.

More and more parks are getting WiFi. Some are free but some charge. I recently read that TX is going to put WiFi at all there rest areas. You can also get dial up or WiFi at the major Truck Stops across the Nation.

Part of the adventure is figuring out where to hook up. Personally, I like the challange of finding it free especially if it is wifi. Here is a website I find very useful

If you are willing to pay, most flying J stations, kinkos and many Starbucks have hotspots at about $5.00 for 24 hours, $14.00 for a week or $30.00 per month.. In addition, some communities are insalling city wide wifi.

Try doing a search on the forum here, see top of page. We have had several really good conversations about this subject!

Get options, WiFi, dial up, and cell phone just to name a few. Some campgrounds have cable internet too.

Also, some rv parks have "instant phone", which is phone at the campsite and is turned on "instantly" when you check in. Sometimes free, sometimes not. Usually not. And some have phone connections at the phone site that require you call the phone company and go through the same hoops and charges as for a stick home. This one is not really worthwhile unless you stay put for at least a month.

Some folks here also have internet by satellite.

We have Coachconnect here. Park wide wifi..... never again. Numerous drop outs. Down over 2 weeks in February... no customer service. This year is the first and last time we use it. For an extra $10 a month we can be on the satellite and have service everywhere.

Coachconnect charges $30 USD. Sat is $49 CDN.... based on $1.25 rate of exchange Coach costs $37.5CDN.... it's a no brainer... invest a few bucks and get high speed everywhere, via satellite.

Cell phone [both data cable & modem], landline phone, WiFi & Ethernet @ Flying-J, all of the above.

Normally, we have a desktop + a laptop sharing one connection via LAN.

Satellite would be the way to go..Most campgrounds have modem access but way to slow. we have directtv Satellite Tv service now and when we begin to semi-fulltime we will go with Satellite internet service also. We do all our banking and keeping in touch via Pc so we need full time access.

We are using WiFi at this campground. (Encore Super Park, Crystal River, FL) I must say the speed and service have been much better than their phone hook-ups which I used at first. It is great to set in the RV at night and surf the net. Will really miss it this summer when we head for our vacation home in WV, where we do not even have a local access number for my ISP resulting in a ten cent per minute charge. Our WiFi here is through Boingo - $21.95 for first month with 2nd month free. Would be interested in hearing from those using satelite, internet and tv, the cost. We have not done a great deal of research on this but have heard it is very expensive, both for initial set up and monthly. Any feed back appreciated.

We also have wi-fi at this park on Tybee Island, Savannah, GA. But this one is free. We've been here two months. There have been some outages as the system is new and they are tweaking it. But, by and large, it's been very nice, good speed, especially compared to dialup.

We've been in a number of parks with wi-fi and have found when it is new is when they have some problems. As they get the system tweaked it becomes much more reliable. I think having satellite internet would be a great way to go but until we have that, wi-fi is nice.

We have Satellite INTERNET. It works well for us. We are on the road about seven months of the year. When we are home we still use the system.
Try this www.businesswebsupport.com and see if it is some thing you could use. It can be set up for WyFi so you can have more than one computer on line at a time.

Just read in Roadnotes Newsletter that by July 1st all Rest Areas in Iowa will have free WI-FI.
