Back Of Daynight Shades
Today I decided it was time to vacume the daynight shades, I pulled one out a little to look behind it and was shocked to see how much dust was on the back. I tried to get the vacume behind them and that did not work, then tried a swiffer thingy, that did not do much either so ladies how do you clean the back of your daynight shades???

Linda,
Man! Dust on the backside of the blinds! I HATE housecleaning, but dust and I are NOT friends so now I am going to have to ponder on this one and check out the assembly of the blinds and determine if you can free up the bottom of the blinds without everything "unraveling" so you can get to the back of the darn things and vacuum them. IF I can figure it out (presuming someone else hasn't already and shares the fix) I'll post what I've discovered. (OBTW sorry about the run on sentence...just am not in the "proper grammar" mode right now!)

Dust on shades just ain't right!
If Grammar doesn't work try Grampar!
Ya'll do understand that there are some boys on here that don't want to hear how this is accomplished, right?

Carol, me thinks you are right but I have made some progress with the swiffer thingy and now the back of my shades do not have as much dust as they did before.
Judy, Buy a new Montana, That would be nice but they don't make this model any longer, besides I cannot justify buying a new monty because of a little dust.
Guy's, Do not worry, into every guys life a little dust must fall.LOL
I do believe that there must be something out there that will work better that what I did and will keep looking till I find it.LOL
Thank you for your thoughts on this subject.

Linda,
I have started cleaning the FRONTS of the blinds with my hat brush.
I got this brush to dust my felt "cowgal" hat, in a western store.
Brushes rather short, handle sorta long (Like 5 inches or so??), paddle about 4 inches by 2 inches. (guestimates)
It might reach up behind there, I have not tried it. I will try to remember to check it out next time I am out there. I can see that I could get the backs when the shades are up, but there is no way my arm and that brush are long enough to reach from the bottom to the top on some of my windows. Not sure bout trying from the sides. Have to contemplate that all some more.
It does work quite well on the fronts, as it is not a stiff bristle, and if I go gentle, specially around those "cords", it gets them looking better.

JB - that sounds like a possible easy solution! Otherwise, when I looked at the blinds the easiest thing appears to be disconnecting from the two bottom corner "tie downs" so you can free the blinds from the windows...only concern is the blinds "unraveling" from the ties?...Think I'll buy one of those refrigerator brush attachments first!

Hugh, your best reply, which also is true, is that if you take those shades down more than a couple of times the screw holes enlarge and the screws don't want to hold. Been there. We used to take them down to put film on the windows to get us through the single digit winter times. After the holes started enlarging we started putting the film on the outside. Now we just get out of there before it gets that cold!

We dusted them the easy way. First we broke the strings inside of the shades. Then we removed them from the wall. Then we took them to a blind shop. For $35 they restrung them and dusted them too!

WHEW!!! Thanks Sreigle. That was close!! Yep the screw holes will enlarge and then the blinds won't stay up and may fall. Safety factor involved.
You made my day!! Now I can go golfing instead of working.

Hey... don't most have a ladder somewhere in the unit? Those screens aren't all that hard to get out.
Try taking the screen out, then pull the night shade down and wipe it down with a damp rag (or vacuume
if you have anything portable that will reach... extension hose) from outside the rig. I'm on my way
outside now, to try it. Will let you know how it goes.

There's another thought my dear wife just mentioned to me... that extra layer of dust helps those blinds do a better job of keeping the light out. That make the furniture last longer.
