Going to Buy a New Hitch. What's the Best?

We also have the Curt slider with a short bed and didn't use the slider and POP goes the window. Use it, because just when you are so sure everything will be OK, it won't be and it will be too late!

Looks as though we are buying the Pull-Rite 4100 16k SuperGlide, unless someone yells, "STOP!!!"

I think the only drawback to a Pull-rite is that a plate is mounted to the trailer to work with the hitch. This means that whatever fiver you tow will need this plate. I only mention this because if it's true, it's better knowing about it than getting surprised. Most owners only tow one trailer with their fiver so it shouldn't be a big deal. Since I have towed other fivers on occasion it probably would have bugged me for the extra set up time if I was surprised by this requirement.

How much money do you want to spend? We towed for years with a Reese and/or Drawtite hitches. When we went full time in 2000 we quickly recognized that these hitches were going to beat us to death with the hard ride. So we opted for the TrailerSaver Air Ride hitch. Have not been sorry.

Have had the B & W Companion and liked it, good quality and simple to use with the gooseneck ball to pull cattle trailer. Now have a Reese 25K in long bed with the gooseneck ball and like it real well. If I had a short bed it would probably be a Pull Rite Super Glide setting back there.

I have 2012 Ford F250 Crew Cab with short bed.(7ft) We have the Reese R16 with slider rails and love it. Especially that it comes apart in two pieces so my wife and I can remove it from the truck when needed. Never had to use the rails BUT as stated, it is there in a pinch if needed

Over the winter, I was researching 5th wheel hitches and, although I don't need a slider, from everything I read, the Pull-Rite SuperGlide is the best of the bunch. FWIW.

I have the 16K Superglide and love it. As stated earlier if you have an older Monty like my 2005, it has a more square front instead of the corners being cut off. You will need the slider. I have seen many trucks with damage to the cab and heard of many windows being broken because they did not have a slide or forgot to use it. With the Superglide it is automatic. It slides anytime you turn. You can get this with removable rails as I did. I even mounted it myself. Bought a used hitch on Craigs List for $400 .

What I did after reading everyone's solutions for a hitch cover was to buy a WeberQ 200 bbq cover. It has a small, white WeberQ logo on it that I blocked it off and spray painted black to make it disappear.

The WeberQ 200 covers the head and the rails of the PullRite 16k.

I cut a hole for the handle and will add a metal grommet there to stop any ripping. Will also add in a couple of metal grommets to run a bungee cord under it side-to-side to help secure it.

It's going to be a good inexpensive cover and I just might not have to drag out the sewing machine and make a custom cover now.

BBQ cover: $11.99
Paint: Already had it.
Grommets: $1.99
Bungee cord: Already had it.
Total cost: $15 and a penny or two.

You won't go wrong with the Superglide. I have had one since 06 and love it. Just get in and drive and don't worry about conflict with the truck when towing or backing. Great hitch for short bed TV's
