Which surge protector to use

Greetings,

So I have a 30 amp surge protector left over from my travel trailer. I also purchased a 50 amp surge protector. For our upcoming trip to Silver Falls State Park in Oregon (wave if you come by), the site has 30 amps. Should I use the 30 amp, then dogbone or the dogbone and 50 amp? Thanks in advance for the advice.

I do have a power monitoring device and understand I have to manage my voltage on 30 amp. Any tips on doing that would also be appreciated. I don't mind running things on propane.

If I read ya right, I think it depends on what the pedestal at the park has. 30 for 30 and 50 for 50. As for the dog bone , I confess ignorance on before or after the surge protector.

Yes, thanks, that's what I was wondering. The dogbone adapter reference was how I'd have to hook it up if I had to use the 50.

It really doesn't matter since you have a 50A rig. Just think what the surge protector does. What you don't want to do is use a 50A protector for a 30A rig at a 50A service. When at at 30A service pole, no mater what you do, you will only pull 30A from that service pole before it trips. Does that make any sense to you?

If I had a choice between a 30 amp or a 50 amp EMS, I would always use the 50 amp, as the protection numbers are much higher for the 50 amp model. When using the 50 amp, both legs are separately protected for surges/lightning, where if using a 30 amp unit to feed a 50 amp trailer, you only get the protection split between the one 30 amp device. Use a dogbone at the panel, then the EMS to then plug in the shore cable to.

Oh, don't get me wrong. I have, and would recommend, a hard wired 50A EMS. In this case there is only three wires coming out from the service panel so if you don't have one hard wired, use the 30A at service and then dogbone or dogbone then 50A. Won't make a difference.
