South Texas - Rio Grande Valley

We are considering wintering next winter in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas. Has anyone of Y'all spent any time in the RGV? If so, where did you stay? Would you stay there again? Anything or any place to avoid?

Just left there. Spent the winter between Harlingen, Weslaco and Donna. Great time, nice weather but windy at times. The water sucks but our three stage whole house system did the trick along with a water softener. Even used the UV treated water for espresso. Lots of parks to choose from just know that they fill up quick.

We have spent several years in The Palmdale RV Resort. 30 minutes from beach on S. Padre Island. Great little park. Google it.

Thanks folks! We are booked at the Llano Grande Lake RV Resort. It will be the largest RV park we have ever stayed. We love Southern Oaks RV Resort in Aransas Pass, but have decided to go further South next Winter.

Appreciate the tips on the water situation. We do plan to add the water softener before the trip south.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time in the RGV. Plan on regenerating your water softener in about 1/2 the recommended interval. The shower was a tell tale sign for us.

We've stayed at Llano Grande for 2 months. Very nice. Their woodworking shop is the best I've seen in an RV resort. Facilities are well maintained and many activities. Far enough from the main highway to be quiet. I believe this is the sister park to Victoria Palms which is close to the highway.

We used to stay in Bentsen Palm Village RV Resort, not long after it opened. The park then was quite unique, with very large circles with RV sites radiating off like spokes. For those not wanting/able to back in, these sites were great. The other features included a phenomenal dog agility park (300' long or more), a good woodworking shop, nice pool, several laundries throughout, and at the time, free internet phone calls throughout North America. My favorite amenities were the grilles that swiveled and the truck rims as fire pits/BBQ pits. The park supplied mesquite firewood, so all you grillers will appreciate how well the cooking can be with these amenities.

I recommend you check it out on some of the RV campground review sites and inquire about long-term rates.

We have stayed at Tropic Winds RV Park in Harlingen, TX for the last 2 winters. Loved our time there. No water problems . Great park with lots to do. It's located on North side of town and is very quiet with not a lot of traffic. Large lots. 4 months runs about $500 for the month. Cable and internet included in the price. We'd love to have you join us.
