Hello! We are John and Pat Goetz, new members. We have been traveling full time in our 2002 2850RK and Ford F350
since the summer of 2002. John retired from a career in civil engineering, and Pat retired after 35 years as a high school/community college teacher. We've been up to Alaska twice and would love to go again. We spend the winters as assistant managers of Park Sierra, an Escapees co-op park near Yosemite, CA. Our son Jeff is handicapped and travels with us. We have had one problem with our Montana, that we understand is common with the 2002 models = a crack in the bottom corner where the front slide comes out. We took it to Goshen two years ago, and the factory farmed out the job to a local Montana dealer who tried to fix the problem with fiberglass - we were there 2 weeks and the crack re-developed as soon as we left. It hasn't enlarged, but we need to find out if it can be fixed permanently. Otherwise, we are loving life on the road and in our Montana and hope the price of diesel doesn't impact our lifestyle too much.

Welcome Pat and John to the MOC.

I envy anyone that has been to Alaska. Someday Lorraine and I will be making that same trip.

Wow, Welcome to the MOC Forum. Finding "old salts" with abundant experience is an encouragement to all who are "wanna be's" to fulltiming. Also nice to hear that you have had such reliability with the Monty. Just a thought, I wouldn't give up on Keystone just yet. If I were in your position, I might consider re-engaging Keystone, reporting the less than satisfactory resolution to the problem. The dealer should stand behind his workmanship also.

Having read some earlier posts on the subject, you may be experiencing a problem with the framing beam size. It seems to be resolved by strengthening the support beams. I may be just babbling and not know it, but I might investigate the issue from that perspective. Glad you joined us. Happy RVing....

Welcome. Glad you joined the "family". With your experience you will be a good resource for others wanting to full time. We were planning an Alaska trip next summer but will have to wait and see what the fuel prices do between now and then. We may be doing the sea cruise instead of our own overland "cruise". Safe travels.

Welcome aboard, Pat and John! Where is Park Sierra? Anywhere near Oakhurst? My aunt/uncle/cousins lived at Ahwahnee for many years. One cousin still lives there.

On the crack, that sounds like the one Keystone has fixed on a number of the older rigs. They've fixed it by cleaning up the crack and installing the same expansion joint installed on the new ones. You might give Keystone a call and talk with them about it.

The number is (574) 535-2100. Ask for customer service. Let us know how this turns out.
