I replaced our original 50 amp cord ( which I described as being like steel conduit in cold weather) with an automatic reel designed for power boats. It was a lot of work putting it in and probably not cost effective, but I'm on a continual quest to simplify my setup and takedown process. The company, Glendenning, sells a very flexible 50 amp cord that by itself is a huge improvement in coiling and stowing. Others sell a similar cable and if I didn't plan on keeping our Monty for a long time I would have just switched to the more flexible cable.

I have done the 10/4 cord myself. If you have a Monty with a 50 amp cord you will have no problem using this cord. There is nothing in your trailer on either leg that needs 50 amps. Both A/C shuld be on differnt legs. The 10/4 will bring two 30 amps circuits to your rig which is able to handle two 50 amp circiuts with the standard cord. the only weak link is the cord and No. 10 wire can handle about 35 amps with no problem.

And when you pull 40 amps the cord will smoke and catch fire. No problem. you are giving some very bad advice to people who may not understand electricity.

No single item needs 50 amps. But if you happen to have the ACs running, the convection oven on, the washer/dryer running, DW decides she needs her hair dryer on, etc. you could easily exceed 30 amps on one leg or the other.
Both A/C should be on differnt legs. ...........
Should be. But are they? I would not bet on anything after finding that my refrigerator was wired to the ceiling fan switch in our unit! Ceiling fan switch on, fridge worked. Switch off, fridge switched to propane.

Bill, I understand, both our AC's were on the same main from the factory, we caught on the PDI and dealer swapped it over. I can happen. Nothing big if caught during PDI but could be bad with wrong wiring size.

Like I said the weak link is the cord. But you could be right if all thing went wrong at the right time.

Thanks to Jim Fischer for the reality shot. I think that I poorly explained my reticence about the 50=>30A bone. 50A pedestal connected to Monty connected by 50A anaconda to 50=>30A bone to 75' of 30A cables to common 30A=>50A adapter to 50A Monty panel. The cable could fry before either 50A breaker popped. I did this in a pinch, but made sure that we only ran one power-hungry thing at a time. At the time, I felt that I knew what I was doing, but I don't think I'd do it again.
