Crystal River Florida

Talked with an RV park today called Lake Rousseau RV and Fishing Park in Crystal River Florida that has sites available in Jan. next month. The web site makes it sound like a good fit for us but curious if there is anyone out there thats been there done that. And if you know anything about the area.

Thanks
Dave

We'll be at Rock Crusher Rv Park for Feb and March. It's also in the Crystal River area. It'll be our first trip to that area.

We have never camped in the area, but we know it well. My mother was born in Lecanto, about 10 miles east of CR on Fla 44. I have all sorts of cousins all over the area. While it is not the sleepy little fishing village it was in my youth, Crystal River is still a nice area to get away from big city life. Winters are mild and seafood is plentiful.

We have reservations here for a couple days to check out the park. They have put us on a site that they say they can extend for a month or more. So if we like the park and accomodations we are set. Anyone else that has info please pass it on. And thanks Bob!

We're in Inverness for the winter, which is about 25 miles or so from Crystal River. We really like this area. Safe, traffic is very easy to navigate, and lots of great seafood places!

That area is reported to have good fishing, I hope so, as we are at Thousand Palms near Inverness in March.

We have high hopes for this area as well. Month of January at Sandy Oaks, Beverly hills, FL. Also want to hear about good seafood options.

Fishing out of Crystal River is great. One of my uncles had a marina and commercial fishing business there when I was growing up, and several cousins were fishing guides in the area. All of them are gone now, but the fish are still there!

We are in Homosassa at Camp N Water. Sounds like enough of us in the general area that we could organize a lunch after the holidays.

Let us know... We will be happy to join you for lunch. We stayed at the Encore Park one year for the month of January.. We loved being there but now own a lot in Ocala.. We go to Crystal River and Homosassa often. There is a commercial fishing store on the road to the beach that has the best stone crab around. You can watch the boats come in and buy them.. They don't come much fresher.

Well as they say, plans can be changed or the plans will be changed due to other circumstances. Our plans was to leave AL. yesterday, so on Sat. I went to get the oil changed on the truck and they found a rear axle seal leak. So I had them replace the seals on both sides to eliminate a chance that the other one was going bad. They replaced them and Sun. morning we left and got about 20 miles down the road and said to my wife we have a problem, I smell rear end grease. Low and behold the side that didn't leak is now leaking like crazy. Limped back to Gulf State Park, got our site back which was lucky and here we sit until at least Friday. Will be at there door on Tues. morning when they open to have them repair it. Then will stay in the area a couple days and drive it to make sure it doesn't leak again before we hook up and move on the FL.

Lucky we were able to change our reservations to Friday in FL.

Oh well such is life, all is well and we are not stranded on the highway in a repair facility waiting for them to open on Tues. So were good!!!

Just got a call from the place working on my truck that are doing the axle seals. This may be some good info or it may be an excuse I don't know. As stated before I had an axle bearing seal go out on my 2000 Ford one ton dually. They replaced both seals on both axles to be sure. After they reploaced them and about 20 miles of driving I discovered that the one axle that didn't leak was now leaking. After taking it back in this morning and returning from leaving the truck I noticed that both sides were actually leaking again. What was discovered was that the rear end was tagged for a 10 1/2" rear gear, and the rear gear was in fact an 11 1/4". They claim this takes a different seal on the axle. I do know it's not a stock gear but a 4:10 ring and pinion so this is probably a very good reason. But a quick check of your work should have revealed that the first time. Even after a test drive it should have been discovered even sitting in the parking lot it leaks. Oh well they got the seals directly from Ford and they are replacing them now.

As promised I said I would report on the CG here in Crystal River FL. Name is Lake Rousseau RV and Fishing Resort. Very nice CG with very friendly staff. Place is on the smaller side which is what we were looking for. People here very friendly and there is a lot of fishing that goes on here. Plenty of activities also. To name a few , Bingo twice a week, Cards most every day, Horseshoes, and other outside games, Dominoes. Also on Sat. they have either a breakfast or a dinner very a fee that is acceptable.

Personally we love the CG and its quiet nature. Oh the weather is also very nice, yesterday 81, today in mid 70's. They do say this weekend that the highs will be in the 60's as a cold front is coming through.
