Insulating the slide outs

A guy in the resort added aluminum insulating panels, I'm not sure what the correct nomenclature of this stuff is, to the sides of all the slide outs on his 5th wheel. Thickness appears to be no more than a 1/2". I'm going to take another look at this but my question is, is there enough room for the 1/2" panels when the slide outs are drawn in? If the guy is around I will get more answers but, also, has anyone added panels to their slide outs? Thanks!!

I would say trying to bring the slides in with them on is asking for issues.

When you say aluminum panels - my guess is 1/2 insulation with alum foil on one side - it was called thermatex(?) or there is foil double sided flexible insulation that could be stuck to the sides to increase the insulating value of the sides of the slides

A good idea, but as noted, probably will no let the slide move in and out.

Is this guy full time for the winter?

I would also guess they are the foil sided insulation panels. And further guess he is there long term and would take them off before closing the slides for travel.

Have never experienced the need. Have been in the desert, stayed cool enough, spent an entire winter in Colorado Springs, stayed warm enough.
