Smile We Don't Have One Yet!

My wife and I will be retiring very soon and going full-time RV'ing and we fell in love with the Montana 3731FL. Front living is our choice. Yes, we know there is less storage space than the Rear Living, but that is our choice. We will be selling the house and when that is sold, the 3731FL will be ours and pulled by a Ford F-350 Powerstroke diesel (haven't purchased that yet either).
We will have plenty of questions coming up, such as we just recently heard that the Keystone 5th wheelers have a frame problem. I haven't seen anything posted about that on this forum and the last Google post is from back in 2014. If anyone has any information on that, please pass it on.
I have noticed that some are having problems with getting fast service on warranty problems and that may be a concern to us as full-timers with no where to go if the Montana is in the shop as well.

That is a beautiful camper! Good luck in your "full time" adventures. We hope to do that before I'm too worn out to do it.
You asked about Montana 5th wheel with frame issues. Mine is one, however, do not believe the sky is falling because of a few. All brands are apt to have a failure like mine, but my beef is how long it took to get it handled. They've now had the unit since 2/11 as it left us on the 6th. It is supposedly enroute back to us as we speak. It took us from July 26(when we noticed it) until November to get Montana's attention. Then the repair was scheduled for Feb. Most dealers cannot, or will not do a repair like this, so it had to go back to the factory. I do have a thread on here about our unit. Just search under my name. Again, don't judge all campers on how ours turned out as there are thousands without problems. It's just IF you have a major problem the other problems surface.
Best of luck in your travels and send lots of pictures as you do!

Golfmedik... Thanks for the information. I will look up your thread on your problems with the frame. I figured that the problem was with some frames and I am hoping that Keystone has figured out the fix in their new models. In addition, I noticed you have a Ford 350. What kind of fuel mileage do you get on that one? We are looking at getting a used 350, 2014 to 2016 (due to $$$$).

I get around 13-14mpg when just driving round home and up to 15 on the interstate, unloaded. When the camper is attached, I get somewhere between 10 in the mountains to around 11 while going back and forth to Myrtle Beach from Atlanta. Of course, that all depends on how heavy the rig is and the speed in which you travel. The best mpg's come for me around 63-65mph, even though it's hard to travel that speed on the some interstates due to not becoming a traffic hazard.

Montana had frame issues the first two production years, and some have had stress fractures in late models, primarily from the side framing. We have never had frame issues with any of our units.

hackeagle01 while I am an SOB right now I owned Montana's for 13 years without any major problems that would cause any lose of use of the trailer. Here is a list of things I had go wrong with my Montana
1) graphics fading and peeling after 6 months
2) A/C controller
3) small crack in galley grey tank (easily patched/repaired)
4) broken door hinge on water closet door
5) light switch on bedroom sconce lamp
6) rotted attic vent mushroom caps (2)
7) ceiling vent lid
8) street side landing gear slave shaft sheered

That's it in 13 years of use. While I am not a fulltimer I consider myself and the DW longtimers using the trailer 4-6 months of the year.

We've been full time for over 6 years and have never had to sleep elsewhere during any repairs. We also have over 70,000 miles over some very very rough roads and while we had the frame checked once there wasn't an issue with the frame (road was so rough the washer rocked over and punched the closet wall loose. Very happy with our Montana and Keystone in general.

I don't recall any posts about recent frame issues. We have the 3711FL, predecessor to the one you're considering, and yes, storage especially for full-timers, is not great. We don't travel heavy and are not truly full-time, so no problem for us.
