Insurance Question

As most of you know, we sold our home in Michigan and bought a new home in Florida. Florida and Michigan insurance is way different, we found when we went to change insurance and plates. The problem is, the Montana is in Michigan, and is staying there, as we run the music in the campground there in the summer, and has permanent Michigan plates on it. Now since we are living in Florida, we have Florida insurance and plates on both the truck and car, but since the Montana is in Michigan, and not registered in Florida, the Florida insurance company will not insure it. So at this point we are stuck with buying separate insurance back in Michigan where the trailer is located. Anyone have any ideas??? Thanks, Happy Trails

Okay, latest on the insurance. Had to do something to protect the trailer so went back to the original insurer who insured the car, truck, home and trailer. The cost for a year insurance on the trailer alone is $333.00. that seems quite high to me or am I dreaming??? Happy Trailers

We have the same situation Pennsylvania and Florida. In order for our Florida Insurance to cover us the trailer has to be in Florida 6 months a year or they could deny coverage.the only way we could get Pa. Insurance is to have Pa plates to get that I had to have A Pa Drivers license and Pa Residence.
I spoke to my old Pa agent and he fixed me up with an Insurance Company Aegis Securty Insurance Co
We no longer tow and in a permanent site

$333 for full coverage on the Montana does not seem high to me for a year.

$333.00 a year to me is a good deal. I am in the market now for a new insurance company. We are at $530.00 a year for the Montana with full replacement cost. Keep in mind, when you are insuring only the Montana, you are not likely getting either multiple policy or multiple vehicle discounts. Being you broke ties with the original company, loyalty discounts if any may not be there also.

I just changed insurance to Allied. RV portion $313 a year. Since it is an 06 I only insured it's value to $35k. Jim

That's the real key is comparing apples to apples. Replacement cost and depreciated cost as well as what extras you are insuring are all going to make a difference and rates could be vastly different.

Thanks everyone for your input. I guess I feel better seeing other quotes others have. First mistake I think was changing insurance completely, but didn't know we couldn't insure the trailer here, with it sitting permanent in Michigan. Live and learn as they say. We are thinking somewhat of selling the Montana as we understand the campground is being sold, and have no clue whether the new owners will be wanting to carry on the music program. We're sorta torn in between as we do enjoy the campground, and it gives us access to all our Family and Friends, right in the area, but on the other hand we're enjoying our new home in Florida and not sure we want to be committed to the two months back north. Either way, we'll still be here, we have so enjoyed everyone, and feel a real kinship here. Off to Chuck-E-Cheese for kids day--Whoop-whoop! Happy Trails, Steve and Susie
