First Time Montana and 5th Wheel
Just joined the Monatana owners club. We moved up from a Jayco Eagle 256RKS bumper pool to a 3100RL fifth wheel. Brought the new trailer home last Monday. Plan on making one trip locally before heading west. We spent three months last year out west in the Jayco and found that we needed a little more room. Any tips for a first time fifth wheel owner would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forum. You will be amazed at how easily the fifth wheel tows compared to the TT. Will take a little time to learn how to back. We like our Montana and I'm sure you will like yours.

Hope you enjoy your rig as much as we love ours. One thing that will increase your enjoyment of your Monty is belonging to this forum. You'll find a lot of helpful and knowledgeable folks here, always willing to help. Jump in, get involved and ask questions like crazy. X2 on the height. You'll need a new standard for clearance, but it doesn't take long to get used to.

Welcome to the forum from another newbie. We too are going from a travel trailer to a fifth wheel. The overall size still seems a little intimidating, but I am anxious to tow the new trailer. I would say just go slow on the corners until you get used to the turning and all should be well.

As mentioned you need to watch the corners when turning. Make wide turns; I don’t think we can say too much about this because we all have to keep a close watch on this when pulling. The corners can sneak up on you if you aren’t careful. You have a nice camper, wish you many years of happy camping with it.

Welcome! We had TTs for 10 years before our Monty FW. The only thing we need to get accustomed to is backing into a campsite - the FW takes longer to react when turning than the TT - just takes practice.

Welcome to the MOC family!
I hope you have enough truck. Those rigs are significantly different weights. You must live by the gross weights, but sales people will push the shipping (unladen) weight. Being overweight is a very hard problem to fix after the fact, if possible. Many have just learned to live with it and think their big truck will have no problems hauling it around.
When we went from a TT to a fiver, I had to upgrade my truck and still had problems when I didn't upgrade enough, which I was eventually able to fix. But we do love our fiver! Tows better, carries better feels better (even DW noticed it) and makes you a better driver since you learn the rely on the side mirrors a lot more. You get more trailer because of the way it tows, but be careful on overloading it and your truck.
Have fun and may your maiden voyage be smooth sailing. I'd recommend a few maiden voyages in case there's significant early problems that need fixing.

Backing up is a bit different than with a tagalong. Recommend you do a little practice in an empty parking lot before you hit the road. Not hard, just a bit different.

Welcome to the forum.
You will find that the folks here are not afraid to give you the information you are looking for. You will be suprised how easy the Montana pulls. As for backing I suggest you pratice in a large parking lot of smooth field. Also have the DW assist. She can be that extra set of eyes when backing up. Remember new height and length.
