gearbox oil leak over slides

Hey everyone, we have a 2018 305RL with 3 slides. The gear box above all 3 slides leaked oil onto the rubber membrane causing it to blister about the size of a 50-cent piece, one of my concerns is that the blister catches and rips open when slides are open and closed, the other concern is why is gearbox leaking and if it runs out of oil will continued use of gear box destroy it. Unit is still under 1 year factory warranty. Here is what Keystone service rep. told me they would do. 1- Put a drip tray under gearbox to catch excess oil because it was overfilled at the factory. (I want the gear boxes replaced) 2- Cut out the effected area blistered by the oil and patch it. (I want the rubber over the entire slide replaced) Keystone was adamant that this is all they are prepared to do. Warranty is up Feb. 2019 and that is all the longer they will stand behind this issue. What has been anyone else experience as I am sure this happens frequently. Thanks in advance for feedback

You have to get your dealer to lobby to get the roof membranes replaced. That is the only way I know of folks getting them replaced.

This is one of the reasons why I tell folks to avoid HCs

This has been a hot topic for a while. Do a Search on "gearbox leak".

Here are a sample of the topics:

Unfortunately the newer high countries are having to deal with this.

Its bad enough that my 2015 has just one of those electric slide assemblies on the bedroom slide. This is not an improvement to the total Montana package. I lost it this year and we don't use the Montana as much as a full timer does. Doesn't Keystone know how important reliability in a mechanism is rather that cost!!!

Jim, I missed that vendor. If your's is affected it will show up this summer in Carlsbad. You will most likely be out of warranty by then.

With no dealers close by no doubt!!!! Plus who wants to take their rig into a shop when they are full timers anyway? Guess I will just take care of the repairs myself. At least Keystone did send me the drip pans. A band aid approach in my oppion but at least it will stave off the damage for a while......

I have a HC 2014 and don’t have that problem, nor so far any issues other than a few minor things like molding coming down. That is due to they use stapes. This may be an issue on newer models but to say stay away from HC seems a little extreme.

I installed the drip pans, agreed not a great solution but it only took an hour. I cleaned up the bubbled areas with some alcohol & it shrunk them a little plus added slide toppers & will keep an eye on them. I try to avoid the dealer at all costs, my wife says to complain to Keystone, Ill just keep trying to hit lotto, better chance at results.

I’m with you, Renegade. Every time I take it to the dealer for repairs, it comes back (after 2 months) with more things wrong than when it went in. I am lucky in that I have adequate skills, and am healthy enough to do my own repairs. I can’t even imagine the goofballs at my dealer removing the slide and replacing its roof!!! They can barely replace a light bulb!

What pisses us off is we bought a second camper, also a thor product (fuel 305) & there are no issues??? I did have to straighten a drawer, but no leaks & everything works, same year too. So they can do it if they want to or have some trained mechanics assemblying them.

Keystone agreed to patch our 2018 310RE HC slide membranes. Sent a repair company from Portland to Boise dealership. Mine another rig were scheduled for the same day. The patch was unacceptable and two of the slides were missed altogether. Dealership went to bat for us and Keystone has agreed to replace all three slide roof membranes at no cost. Drip pans were installed about a month ago. Roof to be replaced this week.
My point is squeaky wheel gets the oil. If you are willing to let Keystone just patch the roof that's what they'll do. I don't understand why a recall has not been issued.

There should be a recall, we saw one new in the lot already leaking. I want to go back and post it in the camper. You would think they would at least fix the ones they have.

Know the feeling. Really like the 373RD. DW really like the kitchen. No island, stove not on an island, but will not touch an HC
