Hunter Thermostate- Thanks

I installed the Hunter programable thermostate today. I used the instructions that fulltimedreamer2004 had given, and what a breeze. Took 30 or so minutes, and up and running. Tried the heater out as I am hooked up at home, and I can tell there will be big difference compared to the original. Going camping next week for 5 days, so I will be able to give it a good tryout. Thanks to fulltimedreamer2004 for the great instructions, as I didn't even open the ones that came with the unit. Now I will have to see what the next project will be.

I got so sick of that darn thing that came with ours that I went to Lowe's and got the Hunter. I installed it myself and boy what a difference. I just got so tired of having to caculate the difference between what the setting was and what I wanted it to shut off at...So I did it....Kathi

2002dura and Kathi is your unit a 5 or 4 wire. fulltimedreamer instructions are for a 5 wire. Our unit has 4 wire and no one will tell me which is heat or A/C. Dometic told me that the ourside wires carry current and the 2 inside wires commuicate. Both dealer and Dometic said the Hunter will not work. I WANT TO THROW OUT THAT REMOTE!!!!!!. Can anyone please help?

The instructions as provided are for a conventional thermostat, not the remote. There is no way anyone knows of to change the remote thermostat short of getting Dometic to replace it with a their Comfort Control Centre. (Much written on this elsewhere).

What you can do, if it meets your needs, is to install a digital (Hunter or other brand) thermostat on the control wires going to the furnace. With this arrangement, you can leave the remote thermostat set to a high temp, and let the digital thermostat control the temperature to what you want, if you use a programmable digital thermostat, you can also use the programmable feature for heat. Of course this does nothing for the air conditioner side, but it is a work-around for controlling the heat. There are only two wires involved and they are interchagable, so it is a pretty easy task, as long as you can get access to the control wires going to the furnace. On our '05 3670RL, they are enclosed in a blue plastic sheath.

If this idea is of any interest, and you want more details, let me know.

Where are there 5 wires? Are they in the telephone-like cable that connects the wall reciever to the control board in the A/C? If it is like mine, there should be a two wire cable coming back from the A/C control board, to the furnace. This pair of wires is connected to a simple on-off contact on the control board. You can connect these two wires to a Hunter-type digital thermostat and run the furnace independently from the Remote system. If yours is different from this, then what I suggested probably won't work for you.
