Mor Ryde IS

I'm thinking about getting Mor ryde's independent suspension and I'm wondering what anyone who has them thinks of them.

I have it and the Hydraulic Disc Brakes. I will not tow without them on a rig this heavy.

I would not leave home without it. The best money I ever spent. Along with the disc brakes.

Exactly what those guys have said. The Oklahoma roads I drove over today had the truck bouncing so much I couldn't read the mileage left on the GPS, but the soap was still on it's holder in the shower when we got back to home base.

To each his own.

I have had both.

The IS on an enclosed cargo trailer. Had one side on the front axel fail.

The standard spring system on other trailers. Never failed a spring but did fail the frame but that was a bad engineering job by the manufacturer of the frame.

The disk brake is very desirable and is available on the standard spring system.

The only thing I have to point out is this. If you brake a spring or spring hanger a couple of 4X4 and banding strap or ratchet strap and you tow your own trailer in to the repair facility. Fail one of the IS units and it is a semi with a Ladow and winch to load the trailer so it can be transported to the repair facility.

We've had them since September 2003 and as a full timer I wouldn't be without them.

We had one of our IS spring systems fail right out of the factory. Drove 90 miles over Northern Indiana bad roads and RR tracks. Mor/ryde was good about sending parts and arranging for repairs. I did replace the single tire that carried the weight all that way, but it was a G614 and that's why I will pay the money for them again when new ones are needed.

Had the IS system on our 06 3400 do not have it on the new Big sky .The difference is incredible. We are trying to come up with the $$ to have it installed on the big sky.

I think not as this is not a factory option for the “Montana Line” and is a few dollars to purchase from Mor/ryde as an aftermarket option.

One question for all you " I wouldn't leave home without it" folks. What the heck did you do before, keep your Monty parked in your driveway? Think about it!

The answer to that is simple. Before we go IS we spent a good deal of time picking up stuff from cabinets popped open by bad roads. Interstates in IL come to mind.

Recovered from all the vibration.
Did not feel safe having to panic stop before hydraulic disc brakes.

I can agree with the addition of disk brakes due to increased safety factor. Since I don't ride in the RV, ride back there is not high on my list. We have over 15k on the rig and the only thing we had open is the sofa drawer.

We average about 12k miles a year and the I/S and disk brakes make a big difference. They will be required on any and all future trailers.

I would say if you are a weekend camper and camp locally somewhere then don't bother with the added cost. If you are a fulltimer, and I mean travelling fulltime, not just a northern location to a summer location. then you would really benefit from the unit. If you long time 6 months or so, then a costly decision, but one I would make. I travelled 2 years without it and once I had it installed I was so grateful for the better ride. I think it helped with the resale value also, except for a trade in. Bottom line: You must evaluate your camping needs before you purchase ANY extra. For example, if you only camp in parks with a bar b que grill, why buy one? If you never go to places with water why buy float devices?

I also feel the IS adds to the longevity of your rig and suspension.

I now have 45,000 miles on the trailer in 3.5 years. We put 20,000 miles on in 2010 alone.

We haven’t ever experienced any damage from a rough ride.

However I have had to replace brake shoes and repair the spring hangers.

Then only reason I can see for using IS is to keep from braking the under engineered spring attach points. I found it cheaper to have my metal structures engine tell me where to put the braces to stop that. It’s just to bad a waited until the frame failed.

Unless one has experienced the difference with and without there is no way to explain it. The first 50 miles on the new rig without the IS and both Helen and I noticed the big difference.
