Latest dumb thing I did

I took piano lessons when I was a kid. Hated them. As soon as I was bigger than the teacher I beat her up and never went back. I played at it a while after high school but never pressed the issue. Now [lots of] years later, I decided to take it up again, seriously this time, and bought a piano! Surprisingly high quality for an electric piano, I think.

Are there any pianists in the MOC? If so, can you recommend some more-than-beginner-but-less-than-expert sheet music?

But even if I still suck after a year or so of practicing, at least I will know that I found my missing coffee cup! Noticed it on the desk while I was uploading the image...

I'm going to set up e-mail, so rather than garbaging up the forum, please e-mail me with your helpful suggestions. And encouragement; don't forget encouragement!

I can encourage you, because I think it's cool. Also finding your cup is a added benefit. Can't carry a tune in a bucket so I can't help with sheet music, but again I think it's cool that you're doing something because it's fun.

If you have a Guitar Center or a local music store near you, they should have sheet music that you can buy.

Wow, I'm impressed. I, like you, was tortured as a child with piano lessons. After all these years......I still hate it. I am proud of you!!! Keep up the good work. I expect to hear 'Pat's MOCley Crew' on tour soon!!!

My DW is a piano teacher and has been for over 40 years. If you want to purchase sheet music, I suggest musicnotes.com
Email me if you have questions.

I'm sad that I never learned to play a musical instrument. I have been giving serious consideration to learning the trombone.

Only two notes to learn.......Out & In!

Hmmmm, I guess it's safe to say that the Yamaha Mama's MOC name is not about Yamaha pianos. I wonder what it could be?

Couldn't resist this thread. I took piano lessons when I was a young boy but would rather play baseball so I quit. Now I wish I had continued with the lessons. I can read music and know the scales, but I can't help you Pat. If only we weren't so dumb when we were younger.

I would check to see if your teacher ever recovered from the beating you gave her and if she is still around you would probably make her day! And just maybe for old time sake she would give you another lesson!

My parents tried to get me interested in playing a musical instrument. When they saw, or rather heard, how bad that turned out, they tried to teach me to dance by sending me to Arthur Murray's. When they saw how bad that turned out, they quit and left me alone to my tools and electrical components. I still can't play a musical instrument or dance, but I can wire a house or rebuild an engine, not to mention build a die to make car parts. I accept those limitations.

Good luck Pat on your new endeavor.
