Walmart won't balance my tires

Went to Walmart today to get the tires on our Chevy Tracker balanced and rotated. The tires on it are one size larger than original. Walmart would not balance my tires because they are not the original size. Is that crazy or what?

Had to buy all 4 tires for my daughters old VW bug. We had it customed and the wheels on it were not the originals and it had mag wheels. It was a cute little bugger. She had all four tires slashed and I removed them took em to Walmart and they refused to even mount the tires since I said they were from a VW and it was not original. Told them it is the American way to customize our cars, they didn't wanna hear it....

Wal-Mart is a large corporation and always subject to law'suits. This probably came down from corporate lawyers maybe due to a incident over a tire or rim switch.

Hey Lonnie, what is up with that?
That, my friends, is typical of Walmart. There is no law in place that says you can't change the size of tire on any vehicle. The only thing that must be adhered to is the speed and load rating posted on the door, or door post of the vehicle. You can go over these ratings, but never under. Walmart is just doing the CYA thing to keep themselves completely out of any situation that could result in them being liable.

If you want the job done right, go to a reputable tire dealer. They would be happy to help you in any way they can, and since most are independently owned, your money will go to the local market, not to some corporate big shot that doesn't need it.

We have Discount Tires on all our vehicles, car, truck, and trailers. With the road hazard warranty on all of them we get good service for what ever we need, and their stores are very plentiful all over the US. Course doesn't hurt, the store manager here is a member of our Church--lol.

That is what you get when they hire minimum wage, high school kids with very little training. they open a catalog and if it says "y" that's what they do. Have you been to some of the national chain parts stores ? If it isn't in the computer it won't work..

As often as we shop at Walmart, I would never let them close to any vehicle I own. And if you shop around, Walmart tire prices can be beat.

Like Lonnie said, for tires, go to a local owned tire shop, they live in the community, do business there and have a vested interest in keeping a good reputation.
Sometimes it is not all about the lowest price on something.

My son runs the auto repair business now and when a Walmart opened 4 miles from us everyone said Walmart will take all the oil change and tire business. It did take some at first but quickly everything came back and Walmart and the people who went there became a significant source of new business. They stripped oil plugs and snapped off wheel studs, not to mention even neglecting to install the new oil. The department manager even told me the so called mechanics there were not even allowed to use the air wrenches to fasten the wheel nuts prior to torqueing.
So much for your $10 per hour auto technicians. As Lonnie stated find a reputable local business that has been there for a long time and don't worry about a few extra bucks.

It's time to start dealing with people who wont to help you, who care about you and tell Walmart to stick it.

Like many on here I shop at Walmart. Have even made some money by investing in their stock. Will not let them touch my vehicle. Went in once for an oil change. They refused because I had a Fumoto drain valve in the oil pan. Don't try and reason with these people. Jim

Say what you want, but WM is a good company that employs lots of people, and when you buy something there, the money IS going to the local community. However, I don't take my vehicles there.

Tried getting my BFG Commercail TA spare mounted on my spare rim. WM would not mount it because it was an LT tire and ther rim was a trailer rim. Went to the local Goodyear and they mounted and balanced it. WM gets no more vehicle business from me.

I won't take anything to Wal-Mart after I had some 20 year old literally tell me I was a stupid for insisting they do not use an impact gun when they put the wheels back on my truck. I promptly told him I was the customer and he will do as I requested. I also said it loud enough so the shop manager came over to ask what the problem was. So I told him politely but firmly. The shop manager put the wheels back on my truck the way I requested. I don't know what they did with the young man if anything. But at least I hope he was trained on how to work with a customer.

Some of the earlier posts here mentioned oversized tires. I hope most realize that the tire size affects the accuracy of the speedometer. With oversize tires your speedometer will read slower than your actual speed. I had a friend driving a vehicle with oversized tires. His speedometer read 59 mph in a 55 zone. He got a ticket for doing 67.
