I have a 06 CTD MegaCab with 165k on it and have never had a feeling of the truck wandering loaded or unloaded. I have changed shocks, tires and ball joints during the time I have owned it and kept up on the alignment. I have many friends that have Dodges and have not heard of this as being a common problem.

I have a 2006 2 wheel drive Cummins and have not noticed any wander. I still have the oem Michelins with 95,000 miles on them and a decent amount of tread left.

I wonder if the 2wd is less prone to any wander than the 4wd?? I have had only one minor problem since we bought the truck. It was a slow coolant leak from a fitting. Repair was quick and didn't cost much. We have been very pleased with the truck and are not even thinking about replacing it, although I love the quiet ride in a friend's 2011 diesel GMC.

CB the new 6.7 Dodges are also alot quieter then the 5.9 Cummins. This last trip amazed me how much more quieter it was towing.

I just installed a steering stabilizer purchased from Hell Bent Steel last week. It was one of the brands recommended on the Dodge Cummins site. My truck didn't wonder noticeably before the install but I believe its better with the brace. I had trouble finding a deep socket required to torque the steering extender bolt. Finally borrowed one from a heavy truck maintenance shop. The braces are not Expensive, nor difficult to install so not much invested if it doesn't live up to expectations. If I had to do it again I would.
I had the Hell Bent installed this morning and there is a definite improvement. The "wander" has disappeared. I recommend it highly!

We have a 2000 Dodge Ram. I normally will pull our Montana a couple of hours away over to the coast and get it all set up so the husband can come over after work on Friday night and relax but the steering wanders so much that I refuse to drive it until it’s fixed. He agrees it’s bad, but doesn’t mind driving it.

We changed tires on it twice in one month trying to help it but didn't gain any improvement. We’ve also had it in the Dodge dealer trying to fix it.

There is a July 2011 Chrysler recall of 2003 to 2011 Rams because their left-side tie rods can break allowing the left front tire to move independently and we had that looked at and replaced just in case.

Also is an after market fix that was advertised in the "Trailer Life” magazine a couple of times earlier this year. My other half says he is going to buy it and repair our truck. I didn’t pay any attention to what it was so I can’t pass on that information here.

We own an automotive repair shop so you know the old saying about the shoemaker’s kids not wearing shoes... our truck (and I) are still waiting.

If you have an older Dodge Ram with the steering problem and fixed it, please, let me know how you did it.

I’m thinking I’m going to start withholding dinner from the husband until he fixes the truck.

I found out the fix that is supposed to actually work is by Borgenson.

Neither one of us have the "fifth-wheel recreational trailer endorsement" that California requires (due to the weight of our Montana) so I hate looking like a DUI waiting to happen each time we pull the Montana somewhere.
