Slide out failure
We are getting ready to do a road trip, leaving Friday. I have had our 2009 3400RL open and closed many times with no issues. The last time I closed it, it seemed that the 3rd slide stopped for a bit then retracted, as well as the fourth. I thought it was my imagination. Today, as I opened it up to pack, I had no issues. As I closed it this afternoon, the third slide took a long time to seal, and the fourth never moved. I had to assist the fourth with my body to get it to retract while using the remote. ATF level looks good. No leaks that I can see, and all noises associated with opening and closing seem normal.
Any ideas as to what is going on?

boje,
They all hesitate a bit. I am not sure if it is the fluid getting distributed through the lines or not. Our Monte has done this for 3 years. You'll have a problem when it doesn't go in or out.
Relax, and welcome to the forum! You found the right spot to answer all of your questions!

Tom is right, check the levels with the slides in.

Level drops some with slide outs extended, but there is still 2" of fluid in the resevoir.

What is your fluid level when the slides are in? If your fluid container is vertical, the fluid should be no more that 1/2 inch below the shoulders of the tank.

I would say that when my slide outs are in, the tank is 2/3 full.

When they're in the level should be 1/2" below top. If slides continue to stop part way in, first check all connections to the motor and ground. If the fluid and connections don't help, I'd next replace the 50A autoreset breaker...a common culprit for this behavior. It is in the front basement on the wall above the battery w/a red cover, and connected to the pump motor. Replacements from Cabela's or RV stores. Around $10 or less and replacement takes less than 10 minutes w/battery disconnected. Good luck!

Check the Valves (switches) inside the remote control door. Maybe it is not turned all the way on for the fourth slide???

We had the same problem with our 2008 3400RL. Dealer replaced the circut breaker with a larger breaker and we have had no problems since. Ihe smaller breaker would open then reset in a minute .

I put a permanent ink mark on the outside of the fluid tank when the slides are out and when they are in. At a glace I can tell if the fluid level has changed no matter where the slides are.

Rig blew a ram on the living room slide. Lippert won't let the local dealer have it rebuilt locally, or it will void warranty work. They are two weeks out on getting a new ram to my dealer. We were to leave on our first real vacation (16 days) Thursday. Have planned it since November 08. What a bummer.

boje, what does "blew a ram" mean? Did it pop a hose or did the ram itself get stuck? Thanks.

The tech I talked to said while retracting, fluid was just recycling through. The underbelly kept me from noticing a leak. I assume from my experience with my Monty, is that the ram starting failing after the last time I closed the unit. My resevoir was still 2/3rds full. I got lucky, and Lippert will send a ram next day air to my local dealer. The bad news is that I have to pay freight to have this done. Looking at $200.00+, but beats cancelling the trip. With a little luck, it should be ready by Wednesday PM.

I'm glad to hear you have a solution on the way and can continue the trip. Thanks for letting us know.
