f350 mileage
I think the motto is "it is what it is" concerning my milage now after the latest re-cal of the software for emissions. My intown milage was logging 16.7-8 on the info display and seemed to drop after the recall. Best I have seen on the display has been 15.8. So whatever that would translate into if I could use enough fuel then fill up and note mileage...is anyone's guess. So last night it was cool outside (low 50's) so I filled up the tank and drove almost to the georgia/florida border using the cruise control set to about 1900 rpm, 71 mph, I reset the display and drove for a couple hundred miles... Display said 17.7 to 17.9. Then I dropped the rpm's to about 1700/speed of 63 mph and logged 18.1 to 18.2 mpg. Haven't did the math on fuel used/mileage at last fill, but my guess is it will be close to the display. Of course, if I was towing we know how big the drop would be and I will find out at the end of april when we head out for a summer in new mexico. Thought you would be humored by my all night drive to northern florida and back to port charlotte in order to log some long freeway miles. John...just call me crazy!

Remember after the re-flash of the PCM it has to relearn your style of driving and will adjust the shift patterns of the transmission to your driving style. I also saw a drop in MPG right after the re-flash, but now that I have been driving it more, and towed with it, it appears to be about pre-flash MPG both towing and non-towing. Still love the truck!

Thanks for the reminder, Karl. It is hard to beat these newer trucks...I was on the road for 9 hours to do my little experiment and I was totally comfortable the whole time. I choose to start this run at 1030 at night so that traffic would be lighter. Crazy Florida drivers are doing mostly 80mph and I didn't want to have any of them run up my hinnie when I was doing 63. We have not noticed any significant mpg change with the recall

Interesting post John. Between last Thursday and tonight (Monday) I ran my F350 from Florida to central Illinois and back. Totaled just over 2600 miles. Averaged 19mpg going (no wind and running between 70 and 75). Coming back had about 300 pounds of tools in the bed and averaged about 18mpg (head wind and ran a little faster).
I think I am about the same since the recall. Haven't towed yet though.

Glad my little trip wasn't up to Illinois. I remember, when I bought the truck new in mobile, I was getting real close to 20mpg when running it to mobile from robertsdale, alabama as well as over to pensacola, fl on I10 to log enough miles so I could tow the monte. And driving down to the alabama shore to restaurants doing 50 and under, I was 20+. Then and now are way more impressive than what I used to get on the old f150 that I had once. Life is good! John
