Guys, this topic originally started because of: "the Ozz One Plate Caper". I asked a question which boils down to "What Political Idiot(s) actually votes for or
presents a dumb, ridiculous law before a gov't legislative branch to be acted on to become law?". It then comically began to grow when it was suggested that the Feds and DMV could combine because of flying cars etc....After reading this I just couldn't let that go by w/o throwing a dig or two at the F.B.I. knowing that some new dumb ridiculous motor vehicle laws would have to be enacted to help them combat the "new serious federal speeding violations" they would attempt enforce... So sad as it is, the F.B.I. will not be, nor is it, part of any DMV.

Yes .we get out of hand...The Ohio law post that I did on two plates makes sense perhaps not to me but to the LEO's who enforce the law. I know that as a school bus driver the front plate in Ohio was a asset for me when some idiot would run my red's

As the one who suggested combining agencies, I really meant that the FAA would turn into 50 varieties for each state like the DMV already it. Like with CDLs, I wish the DMVs would be federally consistent and the DMVs would only make collections for the state but all states following the same speed, ratings, height, towing, License plates, etc., regulations.

I lived in New Mexico and didn't like not having a front plate. The reason I heard being thrown around is because the people didn't want to pay more for plates and issuing one plate kept the cost down. My opinion is that operating a vehicle is a privilege NOT a right and the extra plate would be a small additional price for added safety. After all, owning a car, insuring it and maintaining it are already higher costs for having the privilege of vehicle ownership.

My vote is for two plates in all states for all vehicles, and why not trailers, or towables, etc. so you can identify them when disconnected and you can't see the rear. Make it easier for everyone, not try and save a few cents having to produce a second plate.

I don't doubt the value of combining the FAA and the DMV, but I find it difficult to believe it would be done in order to save money. Or that one Fed agency would ever be eliminated. Not gunna happen

The states would never go for it...they'd be cut out of the revenue stream. I have had quite a few pilot's licenses, they all come from OKC, the state has nothing to do with them except... a local doc (flight surgeon) might make a few bucks giving physicals.
