Surround Sound Question
The OEM surround sound works fine when playing DVD's or radio, but does not work with just the television. Is this correct or am I doing something wrong?

Thats the way mine worked. You will have to make some changes to get surround sound with the t v. I ran a single cable from the t v where you plug in for head phones to the stereo where you plug in the head phones and ended up with all the speakers working. I bought the little cable at Radio Shack, about $10.00.

Is the surround sound system better than the older ones? We threw ours out as it would not put any power out to speakers, this was after it was replaced once.

On my '07 I ran a basic audio cable from the TV audio output to the DVD/home theater system audio input. Then when I wanted the TV to play thru the sound system, I had to select that input on it.
That one died and I replaced it with a new Panasonic system and wired it the same way.

OK I have wanted mine to play with the tv since I got the rv. So ole dude if I hook one cable from the tv to the dvd head phones both places I will have surround sound is that correct? I don't want to blow up anything and with me that is a real possibility!!!

Bobby, thats how it worked on mine. A single line headphone line from the tv to the stereo. Then select "aux' on the stereo. I did not have a place to hook up the extra audio cables on my tv as BB TX did. Have you checked your tv to see if there is room for additional audio cables. I hope this works for you. My closet neighbor down the road, about a mile, has 3 hard working Dodge trucks, I gave him a cap to wear. On the front it says "Real Trucks Rattle"

The superior connection would be to purchase an optical cable. Connect it to the optical out on the TV to the optical in on the receiver. You will not only have sound from all TV sources, but the sound will be transferred digitally. This will give you better sound quality and maintain the soundtrack's original signal. The stereo line cable mentioned in previous posts will work, but it does not maintain the surround sound format when you connect it that way. Most receivers have Dolby Pro Logic and other analog decoding methods, but the optical cable is superior. And it is very simple as well.

I think your not getting surround sound from the TV due to the source of your picture. You didn't say what your setup is but if I'm not mistaken, surround sound is "decoded" by the digital cable box OR satellite box. The sound is then sent from the box to your home theater system via HDMI or optical cable for surround sound.
If you are getting TV from cable from the campground, I don't think you are able to get true 5.1 surround sound.

If your source is digital cable or satellite the Samsung TVs in the newer units have an optical out that will preserve the 5.1 surround sound. You will need to use a HDMI cable from the satellite box to the TV. In any case the receivers do use Dolby Pro Logic to decode 2 channel stereo into 5.1 if you have the surround mode set correctly on the receiver remote. Dolby Pro Logic is pretty good.

Ken,
I'm not getting any sound throught the surround speakers when using the TV. It is set up as it came from the factory. I'm going to try setting it up as some have suggesred and see what happens. The optical cable sounds especially interesting.

Look on the back of the TV and see if there are any type of Audio Out connections. They can vary from RCA jacks to digital audio. Then look on your DVD receiver and see if there are any matching audio in jacks. Connect them and you should be able to select the input from the receiver (it will probably be Aux as was mentioned). You need to know what type of connections you have before you can get the proper cables.
