Rim Upgtade

For those of y'all that needed to upgrade your wheels to the 110 psi version.
Where did you buy them? and what is the offset that is needed?
Most of the trailer tire and wheel websites have rims with -8 offset but I thought it was supposed to be 0 offset.
I need to ditch these Marathons for a G rated tire but I need to get the rims as well.

If you have to go the new rim route, why not bypass the Gs and go for the 17.5" rims and H tires. They come out at the same overall OD so there's no change in RV height.

Your 2008 3400 may already have 110 rims. Our did but not sure if it was system wide.

I pulled the wheels off last week to service the wheel bearings and stamped on the back of the wheel it says 3500 lbs max weight or 85 psi.
It sure looks plenty strong enough to handle 110 psi but I am just not that brave.

When going out on your own for trailer rims make sure their offset is zero.

The load capacity of a rim needs to equal the load capacity of the tires to be installed.

I’m pretty sure your 3400RL has axles rated at 6750# (GAWR). Look on the certification label to verify that.

There is a wide selection of 17.5” tires available for trailer axle service. They are much easier to find, have better warranty protection and are often more durable than 16” tires.

You don’t need to go into the super overkill mode. Any good quality 17.5” tire with a 10% reserve load capacity above the GAWR will provide long dependable service.

This is just a typical option. There are many other brands from here and around the world with great price options.

On that 2008 Montana, do you have 6 or 8 lug wheels? If you have 6 lug, the axles are 6,000 lbs rated, if 8 lug, should be 7,000 lbs rated. You should also get weighed by wheel position if possible, just so you know what your max weights are. You might find, if your axles are 6,000 lbs, you can get by with quality LT tires instead.

Thats exactly what I wanted to know 0-offset.

They are not 6750 lb axles, but due to the limiting factor of the Marathons, on the tag, they de-rate the axles because the tires only have a capacity of 3420 lbs. The axles are 7,000lb, and you will see that when buying parts for the axles or brakes.

Ken, if you have a 2008 and have had good luck with Marathon tires since 2008. Go weigh it. You might be able to use a good quality LT tire and save the price of going to a 110psi rim and a G tire.

Maybe do a bit of looking at the ratings of a ST tire VS a LT tire.

I thought real hard about just buying Michelin XPS ribs because they sure do seem much more heavy duty than the Marathons but the 3042 weight rating is what they say it can handle, it sure seems like michelin is being conservative with the rating.
anyway we are traveling more than we used to and I guess I dont want to push it with questionable tires anymore.
