tpms saved me this weekend

my tire pressure monitor saved me this weekend. we were heading to beaver lake arkansas, friday nite and only 5-8 miles away when BOOM
and then beep beep beep. my driver side rear tire blew out the sidwall, no tread thrown but my monitor alerted my quickly. we drove a litte bit to get to a driveway off the 2 lane road and changed my spare.so know to get the china bomb to dealer and get it changed. have anyone had the sidewall blown and not throw tread. tires dated
5012. the 50th week of 2012. no damage to trailer thankfully and we were only traveling 35-40 mph when it happened.

Sounds like you got lucky! Good for you.
I highly suggest that you take a hint and get ALL Marabombs off your RV at the 1st opportunity.

Lucky you, that there was no damage to your rig. This is the kind of story the naysayers need to hear, that you weren't going fast, that they can blow quite easily. The only blowout we had with the Marathons appeared to be debris on the road that cut open the tread, and fortunately, we also were not going fast and had no damage.

Quite a number of us have discovered "bubbles" in the sidewall before we got rid of them. In our case they were there when the rig was brand new so we dumped them right at the beginning. Had we used them for any length of time I'm sure the two with bubbles would have blown the sidewall.

Good thing you had a TPMS in use, even though it sounds like is this situation you would have known about the problem anyway.

It seems like I see more and more newer/bigger fivers on the side of the road with blown tires. We were on the return end of a 2-state motorcycle trip yesterday and passed a fiver pulled over changing a tire (2 lane State route). An hour later while stopped at a Casey's taking a break watched another fiver go by with one of his rear tires down to about 20 pounds of air. Obviously that poor soul was unaware and they would end up down the road with a tire probably coming apart.

Dale, both of my marathon blowouts were separation at the sidewall to tread interface and one was about 70% ripped open around the tire, while the other was about 60% or so in the same area. All of the steel belts were separated in this area. I got in the habit of scanning gauges then outside (mirrors on truck) when I was becoming a pilot and so I caught both of these right as they were happening. I bought a new marathon tire in georgia with first blowout, used spare to replace second blowout in massachusetts to complete trip to maine. I donated tires and rims to an rv'er with a smaller trailer as he couldn't afford new tires for his rv. Have never looked back after spending more money for much better equipment. That is worth double what I paid. Not stooping beside the trailer with cars and trucks blowing by at 70 mph while I changed a tire...worth four times what I paid! John
