Not ready to say that yet Dave..Lets see what happens to oil this up coming week. Lets see how bad the speculator were hurt.Lets see the fall out among fund managers who also speculated. This could equal the Mortgage mess and many common folks like us could be hurt.Is it not ironic that the Government is now bailing out the very banks that swindled folks out of money to buy homes they could not afford in the first place. Why don't they give the home owners who lost everything their money back??????

Rich, they won't give homeowners their money back (I was one of them by the way) and they will bail out the banks simply because those politicians know which side their bread is buttered on...

Back on topic! Continued to see prices at $4.48 at Flying J's in Louisiana and Texas
Yeah! We are Home! Welcome to back home to Texas Wayne & Earlene! Diesel is not reasonalbe. (NOT)
As I'm coming into town, my local Valero is selling it at $4.75. I guess they didn't get the word.
Now that upsets me. Travelling around I have seen Diesel from $4.48 to $4.99. Then I see it down between $4.48 and $4.69 and drive into my home town and see it for $4.75.
Would this work? Everyone shop for diesel at one spot. Let the diesel sit in the other vendor's tanks until the company lowers the price. Doesn't matter if the one spot is $4.00 a gal or $5.00 a gallon.

Waynem, I know your feeling, in our little town Diesel was $4.79 at the B.P. In another town which is about 25 miles more in driving distance Diesel is $4.59 at Wally World. So I now run the Truck down to a 1/4 of a tank and take two 5 gal cans and fill up and drive the extra distance. About the only thing is it makes me at the least feel better. GBY.....

In our experience Valero has always been more expensive that others, They sent me a letter asking why I was not using their credit card and I told them why should I when they were .20/.30 more expensive tha anyone else>>

This AAA graph below seems to to getting a little more eye catching. Around here the situation is such that many gas station owners are dropping their prices as fast - or sometimes even faster (one case) - than the price they are paying in order to draw in as much of the shrunken consumer base as possible into their stores for inside sales. Not sure if it's like that around the country, but the station owners around here are NOT dipping into this windfall. Someone else is.
There is a rapidly expanding profit margin somewhere here. Jobbers??? At this time and place in our economy this bothers me. I am 100% free enterprise, but this is unnecessary money going out of my pocket that I (and millions of others) can't afford right now...
(Specifically looking at the WHOLESALE AVE - RETAIL AVE gap from 5/1/2008 to present)
Facts:
Price of oil has fallen 15.75% in the last two weeks. $146 to $123 (as of this AM).
Price of Diesel has dropped $4.845 to $4.736 ( 2.25%)
Gas has dropped $4.114 to $3.958 ( 3.79%).
Am I the only one who is uncomfortable by this chart? The wholesale price of gasoline has dropped right with the drop in the price of oil. We consumers are taking it on the chin again.
SOMEONE is getting rich here while consumers are hurting badly. This is NOT JMHO - that is FACT. Nowhere in the last year (maybe longer) has someone had this large - and getting larger - of a profit margin.
I know there are MOCers here that could [s]speculate[/s] (sorry, bad word) offer some insight as to where this money is going?
*On Edit~ Unless I misunderstand this chart from AAA's website, it isn't the refineries making any of this windfall profit either. Someone in between them and the station owners???

Gas has gone down some to 3.599 but diesel has moved little. I will find out tomorrow as we will be filling the school busses.

On the way back from Myrtle (alone - women are still there), Diesel could be had for $4.44. Gasoline was $3.61. Even though it is a slight drop, to me any drop is good!!

Sorry, don't know a "D" price
But, Al saw gas today in Tecumseh for $3.84. Sounds high compared to what some of you are reporting.

Diesel dropped really fast here... from $4.98 to $4.69, but now has stopped for the last 4 days. Hopefully, it starts another free fall soon.

All five dealers here in West Yellowstone dropped the price of diesel from $4.87 to $4.85 overnight. This is the first change in a week. So where is the decline everyone is talking about?

Carl n Susan, why it's right here, plain as day. Pretty easy to see that prices are dropping for a certain segment of the supply chain... Guess which line we are, though...

Wytheville, Va Flying J now at $4.40 a gallon. Gasoline at the dame location is $3.61. These prices are as of yesterday. Have to drive back to Myrtle tomorrow evening so hopefully it will drop some more since that is one of my usual fueling stops. Will have the half-ton pickup for the trip, 17-20 mpg is a bearable when the trip was budgeted at $4.40 last winter.

Diesel in the south Milwaukee area is 439.9 - 459.9. I almost caused an accident when I pulled in to "Andy's" for 439.9. Gasoline was down to 383.9. Back in northern Illinois, diesel is still 469.9-479.9 but regular is 385.9.
I guess we'll plan all of our trips north.
