16" Tire Option

It was our turn to have a Goodyear Marathon fail back in August. They are about 4 years old and 10,000 miles. Luckily it was noticed by a passing auto as it blew and didn't do any damage. Naturally I set out to replace all 5 with some other brand. The first impulse was to go with the Goodyear G614 which seems to be a favorite upgrade for the RV community. The price for 5 was about $1700.00 + - mounted and balanced.
After looking at the different options staying with the 16” rim I came across the Sailun brand, model S637 which we decided to buy. There doesn't seem to be many reviews although a few RV sites mentioned running them. Yes, they’re made in China like most if not all ST tires. The company’s web site boasts ISO 9001 factory rating if that means anything and have been in business since 2002.
It isn't the least expensive of the G rated tires but a little over $500 less than the G614.
What surprised me the most was the difference in construction and weight between the E rated Marathon and G rated tires. The S637 weighs in at 61 pounds or 25 lbs heavier than the marathon! It’s actually 3 lbs heavier than the G614. At first I though they ordered the wrong tires.
Anyone considering an upgrade to G rated tires should look closely at the clearance between tire and trailer. The Sailun is one inch larger in diameter. I’ll need to trim a little off the driver side fender skirt to keep it from rubbing.
Time will tell but I can’t imagine them being any worse than the Marathon!

in general additional weight means more reserve capacity so you should be good if they're built right. That said, it would be hard to find something more risky than a Marathon.

I've heard nothing but favorable reports about the Sailun S637.

I replaced my Marathons with BFG Commercial T/A's while on the road with little choice for brands. I have been watching for feedback on these tires and not much has been posted. I do plan to ask Tredit for feedback at the rally as Tredit has them listed for sale on thier website. Keep us informed as to how they peform.

Ironic John, The Sailun tire was discussed by Tredit rep yesterday here at the Fall Rally. He spoke well of it as an alternative to the popular G614 and less pricey.

Miss you guys. Best to you both. Dennis and Judy
