2004 3295RK Your opinions

We looked at a Montana 3295RK today and liked the floor plan. It is the first triple slide model that we've found that we like and that is useable when closed up. We need your thoughts on the product and model, good or bad. The asking price is 38.9K with a low NADA retail of 28.9K. It is a private sale with price being the only negotiable item. What would be a fair price for this unit, which appears to be in excellent condition with the Arctic Package and Upgrade Cabinets as the main options.

What year is it? That would make a difference on the price but it sounds good. Do you have a maintenance/modification report?

We have had our 3295 for a couple of years now and have about 12 K miles on it running out West on vacation. While we love the camper we have made a couple changes.
1. We took out the free standing dinette and stored the table and two chairs. We have a folding table and only two chairs now.

2. The recliner was moved to the open space, thus allowing freedom of movement to the front part of the unit when we travel.

Hope this helps. We ordered ours new in early 2003 and enjoyed it ever since.

We just bought a used 2004, 3295RK in August. Likewise, we loved the floorplan immediately, when we saw it. The unit was in excellent condition and came with many, many options (including the Artic Package, Fireplace, etc.). We picked it up for $28,800. We felt we got a great deal. We've since had it to Chincoteague, VA, New Hamshire, Outer Banks and a number of other places. The unit has performed very well and we are very pleased with it. Right now the firing mechanism to the furnace is being replaced. That's the only problem we've had with it. We're very anxious to leave for Florida on February 9th for 2 months.
It seems to me that the seller could come down in price several thousand. Good Luck!

I see you took my advise and came over from the other forum. You will find the information here comes, as they say, right from the horses mouth. Everyone on here owns a Montana or Mountaineer and they all know the trials and tribulations of deciding which rig to buy and they will give you the straightest answers.

Hi Bob and Betsy. Welcome aboard. I'd bet with some negotiation your could get a 2006 3295RK for very close to that 38.9 high retail price. Several here have accomplished 30% discounts. We got 20% by just telling the salesman we want 20% off. He immediately said 'ok.'

Our 3295RK is an early 2003 model. We have put roughly 40,000 miles on it and still like it a lot. We did a few things to personalize it and make it our "home." But we do live in it fulltime. We really appreciate all the storage this model has and we feel the floorplan makes it more like a small apartment than a trailer. We swapped locations of the easy chair and the dining table. It sounds strange but it works well for us. Several members here have done the same things. Others have not.

The only thing we can't get to while on the road is some of the kitchen cabinets, the stove and microwave. We put eating utensils, bread, etc., in one of the cabinets accessible with slides retracted so we can stop and make lunch while on the road, without extending slides. It works well for us. With the dining table moved we can get down that side of the kitchen peninsula and can access the upper cupboards if we need to.

We also have the 3295rk and love the unit. Ours is a 2006 model and was purchased new in 2005. the final selling price was 39,995 and that was fully loaded with the exception of the high gloss sides. I would offer the seller less or take Steve Reigles reccomendation and inquire at Montana dealerships. I'm sure you can make a good deal on a new unit.

Another factor to consider is a warranty is included on new units.

That 38.9K price is WAY to high. 25K to 28K is more in line depending on condition. As Steve said you can get a 06 model for about 38.9k/ Right now any dealer should be able to give you 25 to 30% off MSVRP.

Marsha and I bought a slightly used 2003 3295RK back in March and absolutely love it. The model has tremendous storage space as well as a wonderfully open plan when the slides are out. That said, I believe that you will find that there is not as much space as you might think when the slides are in. In the factory configuration, it is difficult to reach the kitchen and rear desk area, though people like Steve Reigle have managed to minimize that problem. We like the set up so much as is that we do not want to alter it.

As to price, 38.9 is too high in my opinion. I checked the NADA guide price for ours in March and it was listing at about what you mention the 2004 you are looking at is. We paid 28k flat. I would definitely see if you can get the price down or pursue a newer one as others suggested. I will say that I like our model’s layout better than the changes that were made in 2005.

I purchased a 2004 3295rk in june of 2003 as a new unit and the cost was 30,116. That was well equiped no fireplace and no gel coat sides, its a shame but that dealer no longer sells Montana's. As everyone else has stated the price seams to be on the high side, I have noticed taht the prices go higher as you get more west. And by the way we love the 3295.

Had that same floor plan in a Couger(Keystone product) and thoroughly
enjoyed it. My current model is the 3650RK. Glad to see Montana has kept several rear kitchen floor plans.

I want to thank everyone for their input. We are going to pass on this one as the poor guy is so upside-down, and will not come down to a reasonable price. He says that he will not sell for any less than $38K, but he can not use the unit due to health, so I guess it's going to set there and rot. We'll find one at the price we feel is reasonable, somewhere. Again, thanks to all.

I believe that is a wise move on your part. It is too bad that his health is poor, but there is no use in you paying for his misfortune. At the price he wants for his unit, it will indeed sit there and rot.

Keep your eyes peeled. I have a feeling that you can find a used 3295RK for about 10k less without looking too much!

When you check the nadaguides.com site I found it very easy to end up with a higher price than you should. The reason is that they list the same bunch of "options" for all brands without regard for which are standard and not options. If you check the box for an item that actually is standard on the Montana it still adds that amount to the value. So you need to have the brochure handy to see what are options and what are standards. The difference when I tried it was quite a few thousand dollars. It does say somewhere on the page to only select items that are not standard on that model.
