Power for 2M ham radio.

I want to mount my Yaesu FT-7900 in my Mountaineer. Do most of you hams run a power supply off AC power, or run new wires from the battery. I don't think the 12 volt wiring is thick enough to transmit at full power. The FT-7900 draws about 9 amps when transmitting at 50 watts.

I put an AGM battery and separate charger/power supply for my Ham station.
Yes I agree separate bigger wires are need to carry 10 to 15 amps.
Good luck and let us know how you install it.

In my old rig I ran a DC circuit directly from the battery to the back of the trailer where my radio was mounted on my desk. I used 8 gauge wire. I would not do that again. I would do as John Kohl did and have a separate battery very close to the radio. Good luck, KA6TZP, Dennis
