Chattanooga east into N.C.??

I am going to Whittier NC from Nashville. I was given directions to go to Chattanooga and then over to avoid heavy traffic and/or mountain curves near Gatlinburg (avoid hiways 441 and 129). The directions given were to take US highway 64/74 east from I75. However, there is a low overpass near Cleveland Tn. Does anyone know how to navigate this area? Any advice on lesser traffic and curves would be appreciated. (The campground person advising me said one stretch of something like 11 miles had 300 curves or such???!!!!)
Thanks.

I pulled a 3280 RL through on 74 from Cleveland to Bryson City a couple of years back and there was one section along the Ocoee Lake (about 10- 15 miles) that was crooked but just go slow and take your time and it is not that bad. The rest of the road was fine and flat.
The other choice is Rt 40 from Nashville to near Ashville NC then to Whittier. If it were my choice I would go through Cleveland.

My problem was getting from I75 to Cleveland. The low underpass website shows an 11 foot underpass .9 miles east of Bypass 11 on highway US 64/ TN 40. Is the low underpass really there?
Thanks.

I was 12'9" and I went thru ok. I do not remember a low overpass.
I turned off 75 onto Rt 74 (exit 20) and went to 64/74towards Ocoee.
This will bypass downtown Cleveland.
The road will split after the drive by the lake. Take 74 to the left to whittier.
You do not need to get on 11.
It is about 115 miles from Cleveland to Whittier and of that about 10-12 miles winds along the lake. There are not 300 curves in the whole 115 miles. Some of it is 4 lane.
Have a good trip.

We have a house in Cleveland.. If you get off at Exit 20 and go east you will not have any problem. The underpass is in downtown Cleveland.. There is a bypass around it if you happen to go that way..
