Dallas area
Campgrounds are few and far between in Dallas, but we did find a good one in the Mesquite/Garland area. It's called Plantation Place, Sunnyvale, TX. It's in the country on the grounds of an old cotton plantation. The park is located behind the old plantation house. It's not a "destination" RV park, but has all that you need and it's very convenient to the Dallas area. And only 2 1/2 miles from my elderly mother!

Thank you. We are always looking for parks in that area. As you said, they are few and far between.

John and Mary, I understand your comment about "few and far between" as we visit our son and his family in F. W. as much as possible. We are fortunate to have a Corp campground about 15 miles from them. I've heard good comments about Tree Tops and RV Ranch, which is south on I-35, is a very nice park where we have stayed. But as we all know you can be in Dallas and still not be close to loved ones. It's a big place. Glad you found a good park so close.

We have stayed at Plantation Place a few times. My mother lives in Rockwall, just a stone's throw away. Kind of a strange setup, but convenient. There is also a Corps of Engineers campground at Lake Lavon up near Wylie, north of Rockwall.
You would think with Lake Ray Hubbard there, campgrounds wouldn't be a problem. I had hoped the new Bass Pro opening there would have a CG, but there's not one in the plans.

For any Elks Club members, there is a great Elks Club in Irving, TX that has water and 30-amp power for $10/night.

On the East side of Dallas is a KOA in Caddo Mills. Has a fishing pond, pool and game room. Very nice.

Christa and I have stayed at RV Ranch just south of Fort Worth and right off the W 35 exit, we use it as a stop over on our way to RGV I think Glenn and Judy told us about it last year. It is a very nice park and handy on and off the freeway.. safe travels John
