Fireplace actually produces fire!!

As some of you may know from a previous post, the glass on my fireplace broke. So, I called Dimplex and they sent me a new piece of glass. While I was on the phone with them, I also told them that the heater makes occasional noise, so they sent me a new heater as well.

So far, so good. I installed the glass, but left the heater to be, since I didn't have the time to install the heater.

We had the fireplace and heater going last evening and I began to smell burning insulation!

I removed the fireplace, took off the top panel and looked around. This is what I found:

After looking at it for some time and sitting back and thinking about it, it seems that the line (hot) connection to the connector block was loose and it must have generated heat because it was loose. If it wasn't loose, my thought was that the breaker would have tripped if it was a short, or if the motor was drawing too many amps.

Anyway, I replaced the heater (just in case the heater was bad, and causing a heavy amperage draw), and put everything back together.

For those of you who leave your furnace on while you are away or sleeping, I suggest you remove the top panel and make sure the connections at the connector block are tight.

I plan to call Dimplex on Monday to discuss this with them.

That is a frightening situation. Sure glad you were there and could turn it off safely.

That could have been disasterous had you not been there when it happened. Thank goodness your rig didn't catch fire. I don't have a fireplace, but those that do will shure be looking at them.

Thanks for the heads up! The first thing to put on my spring check list. Please post your findings after talking with Dimplex.

Another problem to be aware of is what happened to us on this last trip out. The switch between the microwave and the fireplace failed. When I checked it with a volt meter it showed 90 volts supply to the fireplace, not enough voltage to allow the fireplace to come on. A trip to Lowe's for a replacement switch and everything is now working properly.

Michael-
Our trailer has a switch mounted on the side of the microwave cabinet that allows use of the microwave in one position, in the other position the fireplace. Both can not be on at the same time because of this switch. They both use the same circuit and the same breaker. By design this prevents drawing too many amps if both were to be used at the same time.

Thanks for the heads up Michael. I will be checking it out closer next trip out. I am unaware of any switch like Charlie is mentioning. At least I have never seen anything like it in our Monty. Maybe something else to look around for. Is the switch hidden in a cupboard or something?

Ron,
So far the only floorplan that I have seen that has this "switch" is the 3295RK. For the reason previously stated "they share the same circuit".

I have a 2005 3670 model with the same switch on the half-time cabinet. It is on several models. I hope I don't have as many problems with the fireplace as I have with the Half'time oven.

Thanks, Charlie for the response. I do not have the switch you mention, but will keep an eye out for heavy amp draws.
