Kayaks to go!
My wife would really like to take our kayaks with us on our trips, but even though we have a Chevy 3500 long bed, they won't fit in the bed without hitting the 5th wheel. We've seen the holders that mount on the back of the trailer, but they are pricey. ($1,250) and hold the kayaks upright. We're also concerned that we may have to upgrade the hitch to 2", due to the possible flexing of the 1 1 /4" receiver. Anyone out there haul 10 foot kayaks behind their 5th wheel??

We carry ours on top of the truck. 12 ft kayaks ride just fine. You can see it in our signature pic.

Did you look at Vertiyaks? They hold the kayaks vertically in behind your camper without being quite as expensive as some of the other options. https://vertiyak.com/

Not sure who you were asking, but ours is a Thule, bought at L.L.Bean during a sale.

Before we bought the HC381TH which has a basement garage large enough to carry both our kayaks AND the all important motorcycle to ferry us back up to the starting point (we whitewater so you have to have a shuttle). You should really check out that floorplan if you like to kayak it is perfect for same! We used to carry our kayaks either on the roof of the tow vehicle or in the living room of our old camper.
They make kayak bags that you can buy at Academy that make hauling them inside the camper a clean option.
However I have considered making the hitch handle removable on the 5th wheel hitch and dropping the tailgate to haul the kayaks in the bed of the truck. That hitch handle is a real pain and decidedly in the way of taking your kayaks in truck bed, even when your unhitched. As long as the kayaks are below the level of the truck bed rails and the end of your kayaks don't touch the front of the camper you should have clearance (but I would test that theory before traveling). I know for sure the tailgate being down is not an issue and we have even carried bicycles on the rear bumper on a drop down receiver hitch (so they were below the bed rails).
I never really liked the idea of putting anything on the flimsy rear OEM bumper of a 5th wheel. There simply isn't enough steel back there to support anything heavier than maybe a small grill. Our previous camper did have a rear receiver but it was welded to an aftermarket subframe that was tied directly into the main beams at two points. We actually towed doubles with that but only for short trips in state. I never really liked having anything back there that I couldn't see....
If you whitewater and need the shuttle consider using either a rear bumper drop down hitch or a front bumper receiver to carry a small street legal scooter. There are a LOT of folks in Arkansas that do it that way.
