5th wheel Box measurment

How much room should I have between the box of my pick-up and the camper? Right now I have 4 3/4 inches when everything is level. I worried about hitting in uneven drive ways and so on. It appears like this can be adusted on the 5th wheel hitch. My hook up is to a 2 5/16 gooseneck ball which may be why it need adjusting.
Thanks

It's best to have at least 5 1/2" - 6 1/2" between the bed reails and trailer. This way you want have to qworry about dips and hitting the bed rails. You can also adjust the extended hitch as well, bu if you do have some help aropbnd the extended box is heavy to handle.

I'm personally not comfortable with less than 6 inches of clearance. I recently reported in another thread that we have 9 inches clearance but that was wrong. With the prior truck (4x2) we had 9 inches. With this one (4x4) we have 7. It's plenty comfortable.

There's a couple of things you can do. The hitch in the bed should have some adjustments to raise the hitch. And the pinbox on the Montana has some adjustments to lower the pin. Either/both will give you some more clearance. You don't want to get the nose too high but adding two or three inches probably won't be enough to worry about, in my opinion. Ours is slightly nose high but not much, maybe an inch or two.

Thanks for the advice. I have a 2 5/16 gooseneck ball in my truck and a tower or frame down to it from the regular king pin. It appears there is a series of bolts and holes that would allow the adustment of the amount of box clearence. I also have a roll tarp on my truck which cuts the clearence by most of an inch.
