Hydraulic slides

Hello everyone. I am new to this form and own a 2014 3725RL Montana.
Since we have had it, we have had problems with the slides opening on there own. The unit has been in to a Keystone dealer three times for the problem. I say a Keystone dealer because we purchased the unit at Camping World in Hudson Valley, New York, and we live in Quebec, Canada. I picked up the unit the last time from the dealer in Quebec Dec. 8th 2014, and parked it in the driveway for the winter. Today the two slides were starting to open again. The warranty ended April 17th. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I called Keystone and they advised us to bring the unit in to a dealer, and then Keystone will evaluate the situation. Please let us know if you have had this problem, and how have you dealt with it. We are already out $650.00 of our pocket for a unit that was under warranty.

Thank you very much,

Ken Young

Can you provide some specificity on the slide problem? What exactly happens

Hi

There are a number of posts about similar problems.

They commonly are traced to a fluid leak some were either externally or internally inside the cylinders.

Our hydraulic system (2009) has valves in the control panel at the driver side front of the trailer. These valves can be used to isolate the slide cylinders. Commonly the owner closes these valves and waits until the slides move on their own. You may find only one of them moves and in the absences of any visible leak it will be the cylinder for that slide leaking internally.

We have a 2014 Mountaineer 356 tbf that we had this problem except ours came out going down the road about 2-3 inches. Third time at the dealer they got it fixed. The hydralic ram? was leaking. They had already replaced the pump. This was on the main slides which is 2 in the living/kitchen area and one in the bunk room. Hope you get yours fixed.

Hi again. Thanks for the responces.
Phil, the technician tightened all the hoses at the valves the fist time, I can not isolate the valves. and Hogfan, that is what is happening with me. They open 2-4 inches while parked or driving down the road.

thanks again, Ken

Keep in mind that a hydraulic ram can have an internal leak that is not visible also. I would suppose the easiest way to test would be a bench test at a good hydraulics shop. I am sure there are other ways to test the rams, but there have been reported problems of internal leakage past the seals that do not result in a visible leak.

I'd like to clarify something about trying to troubleshoot cylinder internal leakage using the isolation valves. Screwing in an isolation valve will not tell you much of anything about which cylinder is leaking. A cylinder will leak internally isolation valve open or closed. The only positive way of checking a cylinder for internal leakage is removing a hose and capping appropriately cylinder by cylinder as stated in the Lippert test sequence. You have to remember this is an open hydraulic system ... all cylinders are connected in the same loop of hoses together. The isolation valve only closes off the extend hose on each slide ... not the retract. There are no valves that operate each individual slide ... at least on current models.

Lippert has documented troubleshooting specific Lipsheets for this issue. I spent around $3000 and went through 3 "technicians" getting this issue resolved. I had 2 rams replaced and also the hydraulic pump.
If the "technicians" had followed Lipperts troubleshooting protocols, I suspects the $$ would have been less.
The pump alone is $1300.
Lipsheet #s are located here: https://lci1.com/assets/content/supp...mation-sheets/
Some #s of interest are 0076, 0187
You will have to click on each number to access the Lipsheet. Interesting info.
Let me know if you want further info on this issue. Good luck!

I was at the Rally last fall. Took my Mountaineer to Tiara to check the same problem you have - slides creeping out while pulling.
They had it almost 5 hours and decide they don't have the proper gauges to check the pressure!!! However, they did call Lippert and got me in at 7 am the next day. Lippert said when this occurs it is usually the big slides, so they just replaced the two big slide rams. I got the impression that they didn't even check the pressure or anything else. All problems fixed. by the way, other slides were creeping out too before hand, but all work fine now.
Oh, I was under warranty too.
