change mountaineer to 50 amp service

The circit breaker box i have (made by world friendship company) , is the same in every way to the 50 amp boxes made BY THE SAME COMPANY
the only mod is to cut the bus bar to seperate the 2 hot wires -- you put the 50 amp double pole in the center of the ciricut breaker area -- once you identifie the 2 lugs that the breaker snaps into -- take out all the breakers remove the 2 screws holding in the bus bar
and cut 1 eight of an inch out the bar and use the two screws to reinstall the 2 pieces of bus bar -- snap in the double pole 50 amp breaker and hook up the wiring , green to ground white to nutral
and red to one side of the breaker and black to the other -- and presto -- all the breakers above the 50 amp pull off that side and below pull off the bottom-- e mail me if you have questions

Chas, make sure you change the incoming wire (the anaconda) to a proper size wire, the 30 amp will not serve as a 50 amp feed. Also, if I read correctly, you will be using a 30 amp box and buss bar(s) for the 50. You need 2 buss bars for the 50 amp service. You will have 2 hot, one neutral and one ground.
A 220-240 breaker pulls one leg of out-of-phase power off one buss bar, and one off another buss bar.
Maybe the 30 is as large as the 50, I don't know sitting here, I would have to look at it. I know you stated they are identical, so you must have checked that out.
Just be careful and stay safe.

As the post says 4 wires , i asumed everyone would realise that green to ground white to nutral and black and red -- is not a 30 amp cord or wiring - that is the whole purpose of changing to 50 amp
- the second 110 volt circut. And as i wrote you seperate the bus bar into 2 sections between where the 50 amp double breaker snaps in . Thus hooking the red to the one side and the black to the other side ---- 2 circuts not one -- This is the way that it is done on this type box - I checked all the boxes -- everything is the same
down to the float charger , the LEDs the number of 12 volt circuts
the demensions of the breaker box to the shipping weight of the breaker box . This does work and is safe and is what the factory does
if you dont understand , sometimes i dont fully relate in a way that I should for some people to understand that is the reason for the phone number if you do not fully understand to call . I have 5 years experience in transport refrigeration and have several electrical certifications . This wasnt done blindly without any forethought

We're all impressed. You must realize one misses the minute details at times. Nice to know we can call an expert in the future.

Send a message via MSN to trukdoc
Never made sense to me that you can get two AC units on the Mountaineer but not 50 amp. I fixed the problem a bit differently.

WOW!!!!!!!!! i don't understand all that but it's impressive. the other day i was just trying to figure out how to hook up my 30amp female shore/park power plug to my 50amp male connection.
is there an adapter for that type of plug? ie: 30 male to 50 female (locking type).
also, could i splice in my 30amp plug to the incoming wires with a selector switch? this way i would have a 30amp and 50amp connection. the reason for all this is i have a 50' 30amp cord and an extra 30amp male plug that wires in to the 5vr. only one ac unit. LOL i know what i want to do hope you all can figure out what i'm asking

Our 2007 Montana Mountaineer model 336RLT came from the factory with 50 amp service.According to the brochure all 07 Mountaineer 5ers were 50 amp,it also says 30 amp is NA on the Mountaineer 5er for 07...go figure.I normally use the 50a to 30 a adapter and use the 30 amp cord unless the 50a hookup is close/within 15 feet then I use the shorter 50a cord I made up.

The long 50a cord is a hassle to fool with IMHO and the 30a does the job even with 2 a/c's pumping in the Florida heat.

The entry level Mountaineer 5er is slowly starting to get some of the Montana goodies... even if a few years behind.

I now have 2 1500 btu ac units they cool the 32 foot trailer on the hottest days in arizona , went to 100 degrees and nice and cool ,I installed the lowest starting amp ac i could find in the front and my eu 6500 honda generator will operate both . Ever been to a less expensive park and they dident have 50 am service - just a 30 amp and a regular 20 amp , camping world sells a 50 amp to 30 plus 20
adapter -- a 50 amp female in a small box and 2 adapter cords come out of it , one plugs into the 30 the other to the 20 -- just plug in your 50 amp cord to trailer and your ready to camp 50 amps ,
You should have a meter to be sure the polarity is right in both park recepticles before you plug in . Not any diferent than running a 30 amp and then sitting arround outside with a electric coffie pot and a radio pluged into the 110 20 amp plug for the park hookup
