The everlasting peeling leather furniture

As many have reported, the supposed leather furniture in many models has a life of about two years before the thin (and I mean really thin) bonded leather starts to peel from the fabric beneath it. After a couple of years of deciding whether to replace the furniture, we finally decided to take the cheap route since we could not justify the cost of replacement furniture as compared to our limited usage of the rig. Accomplished the cheap solution by buying a couple of sofa covers from Overstock and was frankly, somewhat impressed with the results. Colors were a very good match, and I placed non-skid shelf liners on the seat cushions beneath the cover to hopefully prevent slippage. Will test them out in a couple of weeks on our first "Spring Break" trip of the year! Will post a photo as soon as I can figure out how to not have the post rotate it, we have the opposing couches and love the layout and are happy to be able to preserve that aspect of the living room.

We understood the quality of the so called leather when we purchased our 13 3402 Big sky and had it changed out to fabric furniture. IMO everyone should do this upon purchase.

I too had my great looking black leather furniture peel, really come apart, after 2 years. We called the manufacturer, Lippert, and much to our surprise got a complete replacement of the sofa and theater seating. Hats off to Lippert.

We replaced the sofa with the sofa from our house. Had to bend the the ridge on the entry doorway to get it in as it was about 1/4" too big but we got it in. I took out one of the recliners which was peeling badly and installed a desk. The other recliner we are still using as it has been sat in rarely and is still in good shape. We also replaced the mattress with a gel foam mattress. The remaining recliner will go as soon as it starts to peel. The furniture in them is junk.

Replaced the recliners with Lambright fabric theater seating which will probably wear-out the rv. As for as the sofa, it's original and still looks good but gets very little use so I will just leave it as is till it starts peeling . Nobody ever said this furniture was quality and it isn't.

When we bought our HC, we had a choice of leatherette theater seating or individual fabric recliners in different RVs. We went with the fabric since neither of us cared for that leatherette plus several folks had reported peeling. I'm not positive that upholstery was/is not actually leather feel vinyl. Hope that problem has been fixed by now.

Only issue is you buy a unit with new furniture so why go out and spend more money right off the bat, MFG’s need to put better stuff in there or offer units with no furniture and leave it up to the owner to furnish. I hear your point just so frustrating such crap is out in and this stuff isn’t cheap eitger

Let us know when yours starts peeling. What a silly statement.

After two years we still have not had any peeling issues but we are replacing the theater seating with individual recliners because we just don't like it. One cushion slants and hurts my back and we hate the "power recline" Puuuleeze just give me a lever. The two sofas seem to be alright but we may ditch one to make room for a recliner and side table in that spot as the t/s space would be tight to fit two recliners. We'll keep the other sofa for the bed combo. We plan to call Salvation Army to come and remove the t/s and sofa and just take a nice tax deduction for the donation.

After 9 yrs, its time to change the recliners. Went with RecPro swivel rocker recliners in a Toffee color for $693 with free shipping. Our cloth original chairs were starting to come apart on the foot rest. They lasted very well considering how cheap RV furniture is. The new ones are a form of vinyl, 30" wide and have good reviews.

We've been looking at the RecPro recliners. I'd be interested in how you like them. Also wondering if anyone has sat in their European style recliners and if they are comfortable. That size would really work for us.

We had Euro style recliners in our last 5er. We weren't big fans. We found them harder to recline and just not as comfy as our recliners in our 305RL.

I'm sure there are different levels of quality in the build and function of the Euro style like there is in anything else. I just know we didn't really like the ones we had.
